Austerity Bites and Peak Injustice: Mary O'Hara and Danny Dorling book talk
Показать описание
Austerity, its damage and despair is still with us - and even if inequality may have peaked, injustice is still rising. Mary O'Hara and Danny Dorling talk about poverty and policy, despair and hope.
Audio recording of a book talk on 19 September 2024 at the Hen and Chickens Theatre Bar, London N1.
Professor Danny Dorling was joined by award-winning journalist, friend and fellow Policy Press author Mary O'Hara, and Guardian journalist Simon Hattenstone, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary edition of Mary's acclaimed book Austerity Bites: A Journey to the Sharp End of Cuts in the UK. A decade later, the clarity, anger and intelligence with which she details the human cost of austerity is as relevant and needed as ever. The new edition of Austerity Bites, published the week of this event, has a foreword by Natasha Carthew.
The event also celebrated the 1 October 2024 publication of Danny Dorling's new book Peak Injustice: Solving Britain's Inequality Crisis. It is the followup to Peak Inequality, published in 2018.
Become, the charity working for children in care and care leavers, was the beneficiary of this fundraising event. Not included in this recording for technical reasons was a moving and informative introductory speech by Katharine Sacks-Jones, chief executive of Become.
The book talk was followed by stand-up comedy from Gráinne Maguire and Ben Moore.
