In the U.S. they decided to just print the cash because they couldn't find the tax income. Print print print. No regard for history or consequences. Banana Republic here we come. A thought: If you're taxed on something every year, are you 'really' the owner, or are you just a manager? People need to live somewhere. Probably a better idea to tax business real estate and make peoples homes 'tax free' once they become owners.

The problem with stopping income tax and instead taxing land is that people would move their assets to other ‘things’ like prescious metals, stocks, antique cars, crypto currencies...basically anything that avoids or reduces tax

The problem about taxing land is that if you lose your job and have no income you need somewhere to live, so if you are taxed on owning a home you will have to sell your home to pay the tax and then you are homeless. Not fair, not sustainable and not a good idea, at all.

There's one more reason to tax property (not only land) instead of income. The state's main role is protection of freedom and property. The more property you have, the more likely it is to be in danger and it takes more resources to protect it (policemen, firemen, judges, etc).

Deeply respect Mr Frisby. Not totally politically aligned but he talks a lot of sense and is clearly, like me, a reasonable man. He seens to be concerned about the same things as everyone else I know despite political alliances. I think we are moving beyond left and right. The extremes have stretched the spectrum so thin, most of us find ourselves in the middle. We care about the safety of children, corruption, democract, the state of the media and crime. BLM, Antifa are perversions of these concerns for a pupeteers profit. Most people are aligned on the core issues. Removing those that would render democracy meaningless is step 1. Ps.. council tax in the UK is still utterly insane. I lived in Harrow on the Hill and then Southgate in London for a while. Those councils are utterly useless and the tax is like a second mortgage. I moved away just as things declined under sadiq khan but I do not imagine that the cost has done anything but soared under these incompetents in local council. Frisby for PM! Uk taxation is the most idiotic and self defeating legislation in British history. Guaranteed to stmy entrepeneurs. It is why we do not have a new generation of entrepeneurs to match the US or the previous generations of British entrepeneurs. A total lack of will and clue for decades driving intellectual property and talent away.

Land tax would cause the value of property to fall. To what effect on the wider economy? A disincentive to buy, perhaps an incentive to rent instead, then rents would go up to pay the tax...? Or consumer prices would rise to pay the tax? A similar effect to high business rates closing down city centres.

Land is not wealth because it was not created by human effort. It is a natural resource for which the opportunities it provides should be properly shared. This is done when the potential benefit it provides is recognized as an unearned gain to be taken as a revenue or a tax from those who are speculating and monopolizing in it.
