Get an old iPhone, not an iPod Touch!

Happy 2024! It's been nearly 2 years since Apple stopped production of the iPod, marking an end of an era. Now that they are no longer sold, are the final 3 iPods worth it? Weighing the options, I believe older iPhones are better than iPod Touches in several ways.

I feel like I got lucky getting my ipod touch 5th gen because I can’t find them online anymore in local shopping sites in my country. I also had the option to just get an iphone 5c instead because its around the same price but I really really liked how thin and light the ipod touch is. It does lack capabilities due to how old the software is but that’s not an issue for me because I didn’t want to use it for other than music anyway. As a companion to my iPhone, it works great because it’s not a distraction and is a reliable music player.

the original iPod touch is slightly different from the 2nd and 3rd gen, as the device itself was thicker while also having a black plastic border on the screen. the wifi antenna on the 1st gen touch was also bigger than on the 2nd and 3rd gen

i recently bought an iPhone 3GS 16GB and with the app store down, i decided to put that 16GB to use! it's got about 500 songs on it now and i use it in my car all the time.. it's so cool XD

That’s what I did back in high school cause I couldn’t afford service lol. I also resold my phones a lot back in high school as a side hustle so I went through many iPhones just using them as an iPod touch

To be honest if the goal is to use old smartphone device to stream media over Wi-Fi connection OR perhaps even carry media on the device itself. Better option would be buy an unlocked Android device with microSD card slot.
Example you could get a brand new unlocked TCL 40XL smartphone which has 256GB storage + microSD slot that supports up to 512GB microSD card. That device can be had for around $160 US dollars brand new and will give you the ability to carry a lot of media on the device itself.

You can iPhone SE 3rd for 150 which is great still slim small and Touch ID

Personally, I with a decade old LG Optimus. It was dirt cheap, it's plug and play with easily swappable batteries. I also added a 256GB memory card for music (with any old phone, you need to format the card to FAT32 using a program like Rufus so your phone doesn't reject it. However, that only applies over 32GB.)

Ive been using a Product Red 256 GB iPod Touch 7th Generation for nearly 5 years ever since it released back in May of 2019. It is still in near perfect condition and I've never had any issues. I love it so much, the only downside is no cellular. I'm going to get as much use as I can out of it.

See, the issue with your video is RAM. Old iPhones have an abysmally small amount of RAM. The issue with getting an iPhone 5s or older means that you only get 1GB of RAM. Which makes the phone basically unuseable. The iPod Touch 7th Generation has 2GB of RAM and will last many more years. And, the iPod Touch has a headphone jack. You only begin seeing higher ram in iPhones when you reach the X. Which is not really "old" is it.

The best solution is to get something like an iPhone 12 Mini and use Airpods. An old iPhone has too many downsides and the iPod Touch 7th Generation is still a better choice. 256GB of storage is incredible. You can have one device for all your music, movies, and more while keeping your phone clean. That's why im planning to continue using this iPod Touch until iOS 15 stops getting updates.

I tried both. My 2020 iPod still works, while my iPhone 5 battery bit the dust.

Or, if you're an enthusiast with these old devices, you can be like me and get both.
I have an iPhone 3GS and an iPod Touch 1G, as well as an iPod Touch 4G with a bad battery, and I'm soon getting an iPhone 4S. I jailbreak all my legacy Apple devices too, to unlock their full potential.
