Why are we so obsessed with making human-like robots?

Once the stuff of science fiction, robots that move and look like humans are becoming a reality. 

So-called humanoid robots are often designed to walk and talk, and makers of the machines tout a range of possible uses, including filling jobs in factories and even hospitals. 

In 2024, there has been record levels of funding into companies developing humanoid robots, according to CB Insights. 

Tesla is among some of the high-profile companies developing humanoids. 

And with the growing capabilities of artificial intelligence, robot makers are finding ways to enhance their machines, including with the ability to respond to a human's questions.

Personally, I am totally sure robots are gonna teem in the future. It will do many useful tasks for human I think.

I think it wasn't our idea. Nature is using us to spread life outside earth. We eat magic mushrooms than we stare at stars and planets and want to touch them and go there, even if it doesn't make sense for us. We are curious, we find it beautiful, or we just feel like it's cool. We have all kind of emotions that are coming from natural sources that are leading us towards this.

Boston Dynamic's Atlas robot already has far better hand eye coordination than most humans and even does back flips perfectly today, now add in AGI and boom every single human job can be automated. We serve no purpose in this life in 20 years.

A robot replaces human effort, though it may not resemble human beings in appearance or perform functions in a humanlike manner. We actually build more robots that don’t look like humans, we just keep the simple “machine” label.
