They will fill it with the people with the most money to "donate"

Still the main character in a Netflix movie will get it . After studying for 4.5 seconds of course.

And we know for a fact that not all 200 of those spots are filled by the students who had perfect GPAs or were valedictorian. Even Harvard looks for things outside of scores and ranks after it looks for the legacies

How many applications that were accepted were wealthy? How many are on the 'Dean's list'? How many have parents who are employed at and or attended Harvard? How many went to the right school, have extra curriculums that are not a option for disabled or poorer students? How many who go to Harvard can thank Nepotism etc for getting a place that a more qualified candidates?

I never took the SAT. I still got into University. None of the schools, I applied to, asked for test scores.

This is exactly why you don't need perfect everything, you just need really good everything and then something to make you stand out.

Man, I'm really not going anywhere in life...
Damn guess I'll switch over to the "here for a good time approach"

Istg I bet the learning at Harvard isn’t even that much better than other universities, it’s just that they put such high requirements on who gets to come in and just instantly becomes the best school

So what you are saying is do not be bummed if you don't get accepted. You are just as good as the other candidates.

my mom is a professor at harvard, and there’s some very interesting statistics that aren’t shown here. for example, in this year’s freshman class, the majority of students have a filed learning disability (~65%).

Now I’m in Vietnam and created my own school here . Harvard won’t be in Vietnam for decades, look at the head start you can get . Charge $50 a month and have 40 students. Once you have a school you can make it as prestigious as you want . It’s about ownership

Crazy to think that someone I know has a perfect SAT score perfect GPA and lots of other good things and they didn’t even want to go to an Ivy League school. I’d bet they could beat most people.

My ex room mate graduated from Harvard. I did not go to college.

He makes avout $120, 000 a year.... I made about $130, 000 a year.

He owes about $150, 000 in student loans. I owe zero.

These universities are not always a good idea....

My school had too many kids with perfect gpa’s, we didn’t have a valedictorian

Yeah but you are failing to mention how they prioritize legacy candidates who have relatives who have gone to Harvard.

This makes it an absolute disaster for the supreme court to go after affirmative action in college, as PoC have a much much lower chance of having Harvard alumni as relatives.

But they don't and the funny thing is is that this is being argued in the Supreme Court as we speak Harvard goes by affirmative action because out of all these applicants if Harvard went strictly by the test scores and by what's on paper the school would look like the University of Seoul or New Delhi state

I went to a very academically competitive high school (it was right near an ivy league so a lot of kids went just to apply to there) and i knew Soo many kids who got into like the best of the best universities and you know what? Some of them were idiots; lots were just mega rich so their families could afford to put them in every fancy extracurricular, but they lacked any kind of self awareness it was bizarre. So if youre still in high school, and you want to go to somewhere like harvard because it seems like its the only way you can be something, please reconsider. These schools aren't just geniuses, and you'll have to deal with endless egotistical dickwads who think their gods gift and will sue you if you look at them wrong.

In other words, you only stand a chance if you're a legacy or your parents donate an obscene amount of money. Got it.

What I got from this: there are 4000 high schools in the US.

Got in Harvard back in the 70s. Was easier back then with a 2.9gpa and 900 sat. Spent a couple years smoking doobies with my dorm buddy Bill. He dropped out after a few semesters though. I ended up dropping out after 3 and a half years.
