Nobody is gonna call out the frame jump when he swaps it out for a working model? Is today the first day of the internet?

It absolutely worked. Got it to come on long enough to transfer everything over to my new tablet. Thank you very much. You’re a life saver!

Not because he's "fixing it"
because it's possibly gonna explode

So the haters are interesting, so as a battery expert let me explain this video, which is not BS.

There's actually a really good reason why this works, and it's totally legitimate. The chemistry of lithium polymer is such that the batteries capacity, and also voltage, decreases in cold temperatures. Conversely, it also increases in warm temperatures. There's a complex technical reason for this, but I won't get into it.

More interestingly, this phenomenon is calculated within the data tables of the batteries fuel gauge, which is generally a BQ27545 or similar IC, made by Texas Instruments.

When the thermistor connected to the BQ27545 detects a temperature rise, it subsequently reports to the device an increase in both capacity, and SOC (state of charge). This information is reported to a GPIO within the devices CPU, using a protocol designed by TI, known as HDQ.

Increasing the temperature of a cell that's on 0%, will indeed cause the SOC to increase to 1-2%.

What's more interesting, is that this is actually a legitimate repair technique, used on many devices.

When a device has been dormant for an extended period, the cells voltage can decrease so much that the gas gauge enters a fault state. The result of that is basically that the device gets disconnected from its battery.

Generally, but not always, connecting a charging cable will recover the battery from its fault state. In some devices, and older Apple devices (like this one), this is not the case.

There is only one way to recover the battery from a fault state, increase its voltage. Once it gets above about 2.6V, the cell is reconnected to the device, allowing it to charge as normal.

Depending on how long the device has been left, you may need to actually force current into the cell, which requires disassembly of the device. By this point though, your batteries capacity has generally degraded to the point that it needs to be replaced (lithium cells hate going flat).

If you are lucky enough that your cells voltage is not far below the threshold for a fault state (say 2.4v), heating the cell can legitimately increase the voltage enough that it will recover from the fault state and continue to charge as normal.

For all of the people who thought this video was some kind of joke, technicians who understand battery chemistry have been doing this for years. Feel free to do some google research, where you will find you are wrong.

That said, there are limits to how much you can heat a battery. A hair dryer for a short period is totally fine. Putting it on top of your electric heater and leaving it for an hour, probably still going to burn your house down.

It happens for a simple cause. When you heat up any battery the electrons move. Then you have a little juice in your battery, hence you can use it. You can heat up a battery by a hair dryer or with the removable batteries you can just heat them up by rubbing your hands.

Cold temperature makes lithium batteries feel like they have less charge than they actually have. Maybe when you heat it up, it realizes that it's full

Because when battery heat up they get some charge . You can do small experiment - put your dead clock batterys on sunlight fr a day and use it that work

Heating can revive a dead battery. I placed my ipad over a heater and after a couple of minutes it came back to life. Yes it's a temporary solution, but at least i can transfer stuff onto a new ipad now.

Could be that the ipad was dropped previously causing the battery connector to become disconnected. Heating the back does not cause any issues, it only warns up the adhesive on the motherboard causing it to make a proper connection. It could also very well be a bloated battery causing an improper connection.

The only thing I as an amateur could imagine is, that the battery is puffed up - if you heat it, the adhesive comes loose and the back cover may be not putting as much pressure on the battery as before?

How to fix low battery message:
Step 1: Charge iPad
Step 2: Turn it on

EDIT: This is supposed to be a joke
