until you put YOUR sword through THEIR side ring and now both of you look at each other awkwardly

also, it does make it a smaller target to thrust at. you have to hit the hand now THROUGH the ring from the front, which makes placement much harder. not to mention if you’re unsuccessful it just ruins your attack entirely. i think experienced fencers would actually be warded off outside hand-thrusts because of this ring

I love the way the complex hilt developed. Finger rings, side rings, naegle, knuckle bow, secondary side ring above the finger rings, with a bar to connect to the primary ring…swept hilt, basket hilt, saber hilt…huzzah! 🤣

Probably highly unlikely but what if they over extend their thrust and their strong is in the ring?

With very few fencing bouts, it did not take long for someones thrust to slide down the blade onto the top of the disk guard. Couldn't imagine using a point weapon without a disk or bell.
