I had these! They’re actually not painful, they’re just there to keep your tongue from touching your teeth.

I have these, it’s not as bad as it looks. You actually train your tongue to be in the proper tongue position, feel a relief from your teeth hurting and will aesthetically help!

I had severe tongue thrust because of that flap thing under my tongue. In my case it actually caused a lot of problems when I was a kid. My dentist thought I was sucking my thumb at first and that was making my teeth open so he offered me a free ice cream coupon if I stopped by the next time I came in ( as a kid I never sucked my thumb, but he really didn’t ask, so I didn’t clarify, easiest Ice-cream I ever got). The next time I came in when I said I hadn’t sucked my thumb, he realized I had something else going on because I had to make him pause his work so I could swallow, it was a real struggle. My flap under my tongue actually came all the way to the edge of my bottom teeth, I remember it was so bad that I used to stick my tongue out and I could wedge it in between the small gap in my bottom teeth. After everything was confirmed I got laser surgery and had two years of speech therapy. I basically had to relearn how to place my tongue in my mouth, how to make sounds, and how to properly swallow. I never knew this was an option, but I’m thankful I learned through technique and different exercises.
