If it were to hit the earth, the impact would not be major. Major being an apocalyptic event, such as Human extinction. Roughly 10 million estimated casualties if the asteroid does hit. Fortunately, the possibilities of hitting the earth are 1 out of 250, 000.

99942 Apophis is merely 320 metres in length, smaller than the empire state building which is 343 metres in length. If the comet were to hit it could only destroy a land mass the size of Ireland or England (Not Britain). Not to mention the chances of it hitting are 1 in 72, 000, the same chance of getting hit by a car 147 times in an hour! ;-)

The main question should be how big is it...

Many asteroids have hit our Earth in recent times, but none of them have managed to cause large-scale damage, mainly because of the fact that they disintegrated while interacting with the atmosphere and the remnants of these asteroids fell in forests or town areas only.

Hello. I'm from 2029 and i can say the asteroid doesn't hit earth, so we are safe.

Ponder on this: many NEO's come very close to Earth, and are only detected when then pass by, "We didn't' even see it coming!" And yet, here we have a 400 ft asteroid, roughly the size of the Empire State Building, so far out in space it's going to take 8 yrs to get to EIGHT YEARS.
Again, 400ft in size, 8 yrs to reach us. How in the hell is THAT ONE discovered and yet others (larger?) sneak up on us as they fly by?
