There used to be tons of Facebook pages pushing the idea that samurai were originally a line of African warriors that travels to Japan.

That all got shit on and now this. Ps everything about this guy is recent interpretations of history. He was a retainer as lords couldn’t be seen in public with people like him. He was a spectacle and when his lord died, he was capture and sold off.

The craziest thing is that this was actually a real person back then, not an out of place black character that would’ve never been there so i dont understand the 10 year olds. All I'm gonna say is Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best games in recent years. And it doesn't cost some absurd amount to play it. It's an open world like AC, it has incredibly well done stealth like AC, and amazing combat just like the first entries of the AC series. Ubisoft better have something incredible here, or people are just going to end up comparing it to GOT.

No, you got it wrong. The majority of ppl being upset over this samurai isn’t because he’s black, it’s because Japan has been one of, if not, the most requested setting for an AC game. Like basically all past settings, the main character’s nationality always coincided with the regional setting of the game. Everyone just assumed that when Japan finally got to be the setting in a main line AC game, the main protagonist would be of Japanese descent. Because Ubisoft has gone heavily woke in recent years, it looks like they decided to inject diversity into the game to appease and pander to the woke, sweet baby inc types and to not to make a fully Japanese faithful setting/game. Many people welcome people of color being the main protagonist in AC games… but not when the one person in this time period is forced into the role of an assassin…. Who’s literally supposed to blend in and not be obvious in any way. A man who’s documented as much taller than most Japanese ppl of that era and of being African decent doesn’t blend in as an assassin. 

So… to many (including lots of ppl who commented on the Japanese version of the AC shadows trailer), this wasn’t the character they wanted when the first time they got the chance to have a Japanese setting, the main protagonist wasn’t of Japanese origin/decent.

Also… the other point you made… historical accuracy…. Those interview style vids/clips that Ubisoft put out there, where they’re the ones talking about how this samurai is the first assassin who’s actually based on a real life character. They’re the ones who made it a heavy talking point to point out how faithful they’re staying to the irl character and all the other stuff they felt the need to say. No fans came out to attack that point first or anything like that… Ubisoft felt the need to push and push this talking point, which is why the community keeps bringing it up in response. Big difference.

Sorry, but you can’t just come and claim things aren’t valid talking points when you’re intentionally leaving out facts. I may not have any issue with the main character being African (cause I enjoy AC games for their stories and characters), but I can see the other side of things when actual people of Asian descent are upset over forced diversity at the cost of them losing that protagonist as a Japanese character. I can see how Ubisoft started the talking points of “being historically accurate” first. You’re just intentionally leaving that stuff out of your “no valid argument” narrative or you’re just reporting the facts incorrectly. Either way, you shoulda done better for those that it matters to.

Yasuke was not a samurai. He was a retainer. He was the guy that carried his lord samurai equipment. Also, every protagonist in AC has been from the region and the people that the story takes place. Ezio went to Constantinople not Asia.

I like the guy, he looks like a good character but i agree with some people saying that assassin's creed was all made up protagonists, and now adding a real life guy as a protagonist kinda ruins that, you can pick another guy no matter the race or gender, i just want it a made up character
