RN salary averages and hourly wage income details for all 50 states. Do registered nurses make good money? How much money does an RN make per year or per hour?

🟣Nursing Resume Templates and Job Guide🟣

Most registered nurses will tell you that you should never enter the profession based solely on the money, and many RNs talk about having a sense of calling for what they do. Nevertheless, let's take a look at the numbers you might see on an RN paycheck.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, RNs made an average salary of $80,010 and an average hourly wage of $38.47 in the United States in 2020.

These numbers are only averages (not starting salary or your specific salary), and RNs can make much more or much less, depending on their location, industry, experience, specialty, and so on.

In this video, I'll show you the average salary and hourly wage for all 50 states, such as California, New York, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, and so on.

I'll also show you the top paying industries for RNs, the cities/metropolitan areas that paid registered nurses the most and least money, and much more.

Every nurse needs to demand higher wages. Experienced nurses need to demand easily $50-$70 an hour

Being a RN, we don't get paid enough with all the work we do and the abuse we have to put up with from the doctors who most don't have a clue. Its a very stressful job and since the pandemic many of us have decided to give it up. God Bless our nurses, one of the hardest jobs on the planet.

This pandemic is going to put nursing on its head with regard to salary.. everyone is gone to travel. Hopefully that will wake these administrators up and pay nurses what were worth. EVERY nurse needs to be paid no less than $45/hr for the abuse we take.

Graduated from NJ last year 2020. Starting pay for me with no experience in nj was only $37/hr. After about 8 months it get bumped up to $40/hr. with night diff. currently making $45. after exactly a year of experience I got a NY ICU position with base is $50/hr + nights $3/hr. so going into my 2nd nursing Im pretty happy to get $53/hr but hope there is more room for growth!

Everyone needs to bear in mind that all the numbers that are presented are for a FULL TIME benefitted position, that is 40 hours/week or 2080 hours/year, good luck finding one. Everybody at the hospital I worked for before retiring end of 2020 were PART TIME benefitted. For California (my current state) it pays the most but keep context in mind, it is also the highest cost of living. If you don't spend at least a million dollars to buy a home, it will likely be over 50 years old and you'll still spend 400-500k for that and homeowners insurance just keeps rising because of the fires. Rental prices are more than a monthly mortgage. Gas prices are currently 4 to 5 dollars a gallon. It is very crowded and the roads are always congested and a lot of people commute long distances daily to work. Taxes, both state income and property taxes are very high. So everyone needs to keep that in mind for the $120, 560/$57.96 reported in the video. Good Luck.

In CT I know a few ASN nurses who made over 100k their first year with OT. There’s money to be made.

I'm in hawaii. We max out here at about 62 an hour. But then again cost of living and housing here are ridiculous.

Most RNs in Ontario, Canada are under one union. New grads earn $34 ($27 USD) and there's an 8 year cap of $48 ($38 USD). We're really underpaid lol

Lets not forget Traveling Nurse wages! If you really want to make money in this field, become a TN! I know TN's that are currently making over $90/hr. regular pay, and then when the OT comes into play, you're making bank! $200k-$300k is achievable if you're willing to put in the work!

This is an extreme case, but is pretty common as a TN, but even if you're making base pay of $50/hr. as a TN, which is easy to do, then doing the math with a 36/hr. work week, that's $93, 600/yr (that's if you choose every week of the year). Lets say you actually work 50hr weeks, which is very common. That would attain you 14hrs of time and a half pay. Time and a half pay would be $75/hr., and at 14hrs/week of OT, that would net you an extra $1, 050/week, which is an extra $54, 600/year on top of your base pay. Add this to your base pay, and you're making $148, 200/yr.

See how this is just the way to go! Lets not forget that the companies also pay for you housing and food, and some pay for your traveling costs. So add all that into the equation, and you're either getting free food and housing, which are the biggest expenses in life usually. That's probably an extra $2500-$3000/month that the hospital is paying you for that stuff, of which you can choose to live and eat frugally, or spend it all on housing and food. Either way, that money is yours and is extra to you.

So is not hard to earn $200k/yr as a TN. You just have to be smart in who you work for, where you work, and have the desire to actually WORK!!

How I wish Philippines had also that kind of salary. So that, RN's can't be pushed to work abroad and leave their family behind for better opportunities.

Nursing is underpaid and underestimated. CNAs should make what RN makes, and new grad Rn should have at least $40p/hr start
