Fun fact: Togo is played by a dog named Diesel who is a direct descendant of the real Togo

One of my favorite scenes in the movie, Seppala did a good job showing his dogs that he wasn’t afraid of the ice, so they shouldn’t be afraid either. If you haven’t seen this film I highly recommend it!

What’s even more amazing is that at the end of the second crossing after he threw Togo to the shore the line snapped but Togo was smart enough to get the line out the water in time and roll his body around it so he could save them I guess they thought it would be to much for people to see or they wouldn’t believe it but sometimes real is way more unbelievable then fiction and it’s best to keep it out as IT would make you nauseous to watch but yes he did that and he is the greatest dog to ever live !

This scene is so powerful. And I did research this movie is very close to being accurate to the real event. Almost all main details.

This scene and monologue just elevated the movie to a new height

His second crossing over Norton sound was done at NIGHT after the ice broke. He survived cause the dogs ran in a straight line ensuring his safety

The speech that Seppala gives, is a slightly edited version of the famous St Crispin's Day speech from Shakespear's Henry V. (Source: IMDB - Togo trivia)

Ok I'd like to make a point as to why I love this scene . I've been to Norton sound and have seen the as well as a crossing. You reach a point where your so far out you only see the ice and when it starts talking and forming pressure (yes they really are that fast and violent) is no pun chilling

Its ironic and tragic because his second string Balto is the better known dog. And on a different note, Willem Dafoe is such a great actor

Jesus, that King Henry Speech (shakespeare?) has more emotion and weight than the last 10 "human" productions I've seen! LOL

What is it with Dafoe saying dramatic monologues in movies 😂

What a scene. Takes a dog to remind us of courage.

a paraphrasing of the St. Chrispen's day speech that would put Shakespear to shame
