KT Tape: Ball of Foot

Ball of Foot

The ball of the foot is where the toes join the rest of the foot. The area is very muscular and is the site where many athletes put the majority of the pressure during performance. Impact can be intense, twisting on the area is common, and without sufficient rest the area can become very worn and painful. Many smaller muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons, and nerves all converge here as well. These very sensitive and flexible parts at the ball of the foot are highly responsible for balance and acceleration.

Pain at the ball of the foot is most often caused by inflammation due to overuse in active people. Other common causes include poorly fit or worn out shoes, weight gain, contusions or bruising, plantar fasciitis, or nerve issues related to diabetes.

The pain can be felt while weight bearing, or to the touch. The pain can range from dull and achy to very sharp and a burning sensation. In short, the pain at the ball of foot varies significantly and often needs special diagnosis to identify the specific problem.

Typical treatment of these conditions includes critical rest, ice, inserts or orthotics, and light massage or stretching. KT Tape can greatly speed the pace of recovery and significantly relieve the pain through the process. It's very hard for anyone to stay off their feet, so often times foot problems take a very long time to heal. Those who have used KT Tape to alleviate the strain they put on their feet and promote healing have seen great results and decreased recovery times.

Big thanks. Got a fairly painful stone bruise on my 2nd metatarsal two days ago running in the mountains - probably 50% reduction in pain almost immediately after taping today. Then went for a run - pain levels very manageable. Thanks again!

THis application continues to help me with my bunion pain, which is great since I have a dance performance coming up and full resting isn't an option.

I used much less KT tape and got almost instant relief for a metatarsal strain/inflammation. I watched a different video which used just one wide piece of tape from under the toes to the heel, then a thinner strip of tape horizontally across the ball of the foot just under the toes; I just cut one of the wider pre-cut strips. Just mentioning this as an option that uses much less tape, therefore cheaper over time. I think a lot of the taping is trial and error. My issues were from bad footwear and overuse.

Depending on you skin type and how much your feet sweat, you should be able to get multiple days use. You can shower with it for several days. I would recommend the KT Tape Pro because it tends to last 3-7 days on feet whereas the cotton tends to last 1-3 days.

This is very useful and a wonderful demonstration. Thank you. I was happy to see Target has KT tape. But confusing that they have original, pro and pro extreme.
I decided that if it hurts extremely much and I want to walk on it that I must need pro extreme.

It would help me and maybe others if you would address taping more of the foot. For example, a mostly top of foot midfoot twist sprain that extends to the toe joint and cuboid), and wraps over the outside almost that length, onto the plantar surface at the outside bottom half of the side of the midfoot.and onto the plantar surface to halfway in there.

And maybe address whether if it doesn’t hurt to walk so much when it is taped that I don’t have to refrain from long walks while it heals? I was advised to forgo the long walks until it stopped hurting so much.

Thanks!

I'm thinking this could be combined with ankle taping. I have a lot of pain under the ball of the foot, and sometimes it spreads to the ankle area. Any thoughts?

Im signed up for a 500k race, will this type of taping reduce the stress and help distribute trauma to the foot, thus allowing less pain during long events? Thanks

What is the point of the tape going back to the heel--is it just to keept the other tape from being rubbed off? I just want to stop irritation at the ball of the foot --just the part that sticks out behind the big toe.I have very high arches.

if your forefoot hurts how do you tape your foot then? It really hurts when I'm walking.

Does anyone know if this can be done for the fat pad in the ball of the foot (not the heel - my fat pad in the ball is the one that is compressed).

Thank you for the video KT Tape. But what does "50% or 80% stretching of the tape" mean? Can you please clarify.

Is this something that you might have to for months to get relief? Will it help correct the problem, usually? I know everyone is different etc
