Fun fact, this scene was shot in Ireland and they used the Irish army as extras and helped them during filming. Aparently 3 Americans decided to show up late and missed the army giving instructions on where the explosives were and in their infinite wisdom got blown up, but thankfully survived with minimal injuries

Fun Fact! The bullet wasn't even supposed to hit the canteen. The medic was actually shot in the hip and Steven Spielberg liked it so much he kept it in the film!
