About this video
In this video Zane from Audio Tech TV (formerly Simple Green Tech) does a music production tip. If you can't play audio while DAW is open or maybe can't play YouTube while DAW is open then this video will show you a quick & easy way to fix this in just 8 clicks. Now you can have your digital audio workstation open and play music, videos, YouTube, or whatever. This will work with Pro Tools, FL Studio, Ableton Live, Cakewalk, and every DAW. You just need to change your windows sounds settings or audio settings. I show you how to adjust the Windows 10 sound settings but it will be similar with other versions of Windows too. If you want more videos and tutorials on home studio recording and music production be sure to subscribe to Audio Tech TV on YouTube.

I have literally been looking for YEARS for a solution to being able to play Youtube videos while in Fl Studio and you solved this in a minute. This has been the single most annoying issue of all time that for some reason I could not figure out for the life of me. Thank you Zane, this has honestly made my day, maybe my week.

I also want to add that, for me, the sample rate as to be the same in windows and in Daw. I had windows at 48000hz and Daw at 44100hz and it wasn't working until I changed the windows one to 44100hz

Man, thank you much for this video! I've been struggling with this issue for a long time. For me, my sample rate in the Control Panel didn't match what was in Ableton Live. Once I set them both to 48K and unchecked the exclusivity boxes everything started working flawlessly. Thank you soooo much! You seriously made my day.

Tip for asio users- When you do this you also have to turn the same option of on the asio app, otherwise the output devide won't appear as an option

If this doesn't work, after a lot of banging my head I found another thing to check which finally solved it for me. Check your DAW sample rate matches the system playback sound sample rate. A mismatch means you can only listen to one or the other, but not both at the same time. That finally cracked it for me. Hope that helps someone else!

Great Video! as an additional suggestion, Always check if your DAW sample rate is the same as the default one of Windows, other wise the DAW will still mute the browser if the sample rate do not match.

This is working guys. Kudos!

I'm on Win11, i just toggle the allow/don't allow then it works. I can use my ableton and still can play audio outside the DAW

If this solution does not work, you can also check the sampling rate used. it solved the problem for me : I was in 16 bits 48k and when i chose 16 bits 44, 1K instead it worked. The sampling rate is in the same tab as the check block showed in this video

the sad part about this is, I've been a Microsoft certified technician since the mid 90s.
I've actually done this in the past, but completely forgot it. Set up a new system a week ago and was dealing with this. Thanks for jogging the memory. I appreciate you.
