I bought the cheapest M2 Macbook Air, here are my thoughts after two weeks in this review.

Despite the shitstorm I went for the base M2 MBA. I was previously using a gaming laptop with a 5800H a 3070 and 2Tb of SSD storage.
This thing is a lot faster and has a battery that lasts forever. It does not produce any kind of heat during normal usage while my gaming laptop was always hot and barely usable on the nap.
Do not listen who says this device is slow because of the SSD. It's bullshit.
This is the PERFECT laptop for everyday usage... just not for gaming and for heavy editing.

I got my MBA (16gb 512gb) on July 18th and I absolutely love it! I upgraded from a 2013 MBP, so the improvements were instantly noticeable to me. This laptop is way thinner than I thought it would be, based off of all the videos I have watched of it, but it feels way more portable than my old MBP ever did.

As I am a grad student, the SSD speed doesnt seem like a problem to me since I will very rarely be exporting large files. Do you think there is any benefit of upgrading the storage for future space or RAM for higher speed? I dont do any gaming or use video apps but I consistenly have 15-30 safari/chrome tabs open + some pdf or word files. I also prefer to store most of my doucments locally. Thanks!

If I only render like 1 4K video every other week do you think the 8g ram 512 ssd and 8core cpu is sufficient ?

I'm totally with you on this. The negativity around this machine on Youtube is annoying. It's simply not a "pro" computer and shouldn't be considered if you are a "pro" user. I use my laptop, docked at my desk most of the time, to do mostly basic computing tasks. There is some light Photoshop and video rendering from a Keynote file. I was doing that all on my base model 2017 12 in MacBook up until I got the base M2 Air a little over a week ago. The 12 in MacBook was just starting to show its age with slowdowns and battery draining. The new M2 will be a huge upgrade for me and it will have more than enough power to do what I need. Great review!

The M1 air with 16gb ram and 512 gb ssd costs me around 1500 Euros, the M2 Air with the same config costs almost 2000 Euros just the same as the 14 M1 pro. I have started video editing as a hobby and currently use my desktop pc (R5 5600x, 3080, 32gb ram) for that  but I want something as well for the go since I am often on the go. Which model would you recommend me?  I want to keep the device at least for 5 yrs. I use davinci resolve and edit 4k videos

@2:10 that was refreshing to hear from a tech guy 👍so does shows how it can be used. For me though and the other 95%, it's a great machine. I even ordered then cancelled the 14" Pro as I wanted the lighter weight and got the 512Gb for more storage. 😄

Man I hope I adjust the macOS ok. Still a few weeks out from arriving but I went all in and got the midnight 10 core gpu, 16gb ram and 1tb ssd. Never owned a mac before, almost got one last year but glad I waited to see the redesign.

I wonder if you get the base M2 air BUT custom apple upgrade to 512 SSD (but not the full upgrade to $1499 version with 10-Core GPU) if that one is one 512 SSD chip or they use 2 chips as well like the 10-core ?

I have been going back and forth regarding the air and the m1 pro 14 inch. By the time you add storage and ram you are creeping up on the discounted 14 inch from last year.
What ended up making my decision was that this is tax exempt week in Florida for computers under 1500. Plus Apple's back to school gift card of 150.
Stacking the education discount (120), tax exempt ($100) and the $150 gift card it makes it a better deal than the m1pro at this time for me.

I love that midnight! But, 8GB/256GB SSD in 2022? For $1200? Hell to the no! You are paying through the nose for that thing, and who does that without a professional workflow? All those issues it has just for a nice looking system? Nah, bro!
