I took this cheapest MacBook and upgraded it!

I bought the exact same model from Back Market recently it’s basically brand new for $98 and only has 112 battery charge cycles I’m so happy

This thing's pretty nice. I gave my dad my 11 inch mid-2013 with 4GB RAM since I upgraded to an M1 Air and he loves it, way better than any computer he's ever had

What i missed most about those old MacBooks, is the apple logo lighting up. “Apple bring it back”

I bought this recently for $129. It's not a bad travel companion. I upgraded the SSG to 250GB & it has 8GB of memory. I also updated the OS to Ventura via Open Core Legacy Patcher. For what I need it for, it's not a bad purchase

My day-to-day Mac until recently was the last iteration of that old design with wide silver bezel, except 13-inch version, from 2017. It runs latest MacOS (Monterey) well and never felt slow to me for doing the things I do on a Mac… Until I started using my M1 MacBook. Now it feels somewhat slow in comparison, and its not-Retina screen doesn’t look as good. But it’s still very usable; I like the old-school USB ports, TB2/DisplayPort, MagSafe, plus SD card slot. I plan to do what you demonstrated… Connect to a large display and use it as a desktop Mac most of the time. So thanks for showing that your older model does fine with everyday tasks.

I got myself an 11” inch MacBook Air 2015 with 8GB RAM and 256GB ssd in 2018 for $450 on eBay (nowadays you can still get them for around $250-300). Still using it now in 2022 for basic task like web browsing, music, content consumption, document editing and light gaming on Steam. Those things are awesome (it can run Monterey — sadly that’ll be the last supported MacOS version). Battery down to 80% capacity but I think I will replace the battery and it would give at least 2-3 more years of use out of it.

I owned one of these a few years ago. Can’t remember the year but it was shockingly good for the money, only paid a few hundred quid. I also love and miss the wedge design of the air. Still a great laptop to this day.

I had this exact model but with 8GB of memory. It really was a champ and ran great. I ultimately sold it to get a '2020 MacBook Air so I could run Windows apps with Parallels, but that little old Air was a fine machine.

It would be very interesting to see a comparison between this MacBook Air and a used budget iPad like the iPad 7th generation. Both products are meant to do the basics, but both have different ways of doing it with advantages and disadvantages.

My Mac laptop is a mid-2012 MacBook Pro, which I believe was the last fully upgradeable MBP (so I fully upgraded it 😁). The display isn't a nice as the MB Air but otherwise it does the job for me nicely.

Thanks for uploading this. I was agonizing over a new m2 air vs a base 14” m1 pro, since their costs are so close once you spec up the m2. This video made me reevaluate. Going for a refurbished base model m1 air for a third of the price, and honestly even that may be overkill. Thanks again

I use a 13" M1 Air and love it. What an amazing machine. But I also still have and use my i5 mid-2012 Mac mini (8GB + SSD upgrade) as my desktop computer. Of late I mainly use it as a dual-boot Linux machine with Linux Mint running most days because pretty much everything runs so smoothly and it's better with RAM. That said, I can and do boot MacOS on it whenever I need to run Mac-only software. I even use Windows on it, in VirtualBox, to run TurboTax (Windows only app). Really great how well a 10-year old device can still get a lot of useful things done. 👍

I noticed the FPS on an external display can come down to the adapter.

On my M1 MBP I got 4k 30fps using a bog standard adapter, but 4k 60fps using a Thunderbolt (USB-C) to DisplayPort cable. That said, the specs page for that MacBook Air doesn't say what FPS you can use, I guess it is 24fps.

The keyboards on those pre-Retina MBAs are amazing! Best laptop keyboard I’ve ever used.

You just inspired me to get one for work! I just need it for the basics and it will fit perfectly in my bag.

I bought a 2012 Macbok Pro with an I5 intel core and a 1 terabyte for storage all for under 500$. I love it and I’m going to be using it for school. The Apple logo lighting up on the back is one of my favorite parts about it

My wife used to have this exact little laptop until I bought her an M1 MBA and got her to upgrade. But that old MBA was a champ. It fit in her purse and could do all the normal office work and web browsing.

She used to Lightroom on it too and that was a struggle. And edit our church videos which would take 12 hours to render a 1 hour sermon.

If Apple ever brings back the 11” MBA with Apple Silicon I think it would be a huge hit. Although an M1 iPad Air would work too if you could just run MacOS on it.

Is it just me or the webcam looks absolutely amazing? Like even better than most of today's laptops. I thought it was the camera you regularly use for a sec.

My wife still uses her 6gb RAM version of this air to this day. We bought it new in box from best Buy back in 2015 and she is still kicking. Macbook longevity was the exact reason we decided to invest in one versus getting a cheaper Windows computer that may have been more capable at the time.
