The FDS bios feature on the latest N8 OS is for using the original bios as opposed to the custom bios that Krikzz developed, which allows the N8 to run FDS games without user input while avoiding distribution of the copyrighted bios. Using the original bios allows to see the original FDS splash screen before the game is loaded, and may have better compatibility than the custom one.

Great work! These are helpful for me as someone who is interested in the hobby but doesn't have the time to really stay immersed in every bit of news.

"throw some CD images on there". that's a casual sounding description of something that took me three days XD

CT Cogan Computer fair? Apparently they are still around. I remember going them a few times roughly 20 years ago! Also, no mention of that FPGA board for the FD reader? I'm pretty sure that's a De-10 Nano.

Been spending way too much on retro consoles these days, so sad I got rid of it all as a kid, but sitting pretty good now with a 32" sony WEGA (goodness its heavy). Wish I had won the cables but glad you are doing these and I look forward to the show every week.

My core grafx 2 has great component signal. i was shocked when i saw it for the first time. then i used fudduh's cable and it was even more crisp! but yeah the HDMI signal from the MiSTer is amazing.

What's the value of "dumping" something like a floppy that you can already easily copy contents from?

This isn't the first time someone creates a replacement board for the NES. I think the first Analogue NT had replacement boards, but they caused a lot of issues with games and the everdrive. Although to be fair, the everdrive doesn't play nice with even the HDMI adapter, and some RGB adapters.

NESessity is so exciting! Low-budget's work on the Super-8 is what inspired me to draft out NES schematics in eagle a couple years ago....I stopped because life got in the way but I got like 80% done with the schematic (none of the layout was done though). I posted the project on hackaday anyway though as up until then the only other existing references were just PDF scans of documents from the 90s... Now 2020 rolls around and RedHerring releases OpenTendo, and Low_budget is back with NESessity. So we have several sources to choose from now. The possibilities these open up for integrating mods directly in the board is RGB, HDMI, CopyNES, modern controllers, expansion audio,

The floppy disk emulator is powered by the DE10-nano. Might interest MiSTer users.

I agree with the software emulation when it comes to 3D games. N64 emulation has come a long way and it's getting better and better. Also thanks for doing these giveaways :)

So what happens if you buy a Mister now, and then a new FPGA which is twice as powerful, yet costs the same, comes out in a year or two?? Is the Mister hardware going to change as well? If so, is the existing user base going to be left out if the original Cyclone V isn't powerful enough for potential future systems which get added? I'm wondering since when I finally decided to purchase the Everdrive SD2SNES (which is FPGA based), the way more powerful FXPAK Pro replaced it a mere few months later at the exact same price.

NESESSITY looks great. I hope that there's a AV Famicom and Top loader version. I also hope it's fully compatible with Hi Def NES mod

I really want to see someone make a wireless adapter for the 3D controller that slots right in where the cable would otherwise go, offering maybe a 2.4ghz or Bluetooth connection to use with a retrobit adapter

I'd really prefer some kind of conversion kit to make my nes a toploader.
