"Galactica, this is Pegasus actual.... Adama, is that you?"

Still brings goosebumps when I hear it...

I always liked that they used a lot of actual naval terminology on this show.

"This is the Battlestar Pegasus to the ship claiming to be the Galactica. Please respond." That has to be my single favorite line throughout the entire series.Even though things go sideways in a hurry, for at least a moment they have a real, true, bright moment of hope because they also learn something of supreme importance... that they are not alone anymore.

You can see that the Pegasus is the supireor ship, just by the fact that the DRADIS on Pegasus can differentiate between Pegasus and Galactica's viper, but Galactica only shows all vipers as Colonial vipers.
And even though these screens are in the shot for only a frame or two, just the fact they did the effort makes the show a whole lot better.

1978 Apollo: "Oh my Lord, it isn't a 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 . . . "
2009 Apollo: " . . . You are not going to believe what I'm looking at out here. It's like a 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 . . . "
A small, but satisfying connection between the two.

the reveal of the Pegasus bridge was genius.
accustomed to the oldschool design, it's like you time jump 50 years into the future.

It's a small detail, but I love how you constantly get shots of people closing hatches. It's a tiny thing that helps sell they're on a starship.

Notice the screen behind Dee when she confirms the recognition codes, the "Unknown Vessel" updates to "Battlestar Pegasus", such a great attention to detail.

The view as the vipers fly past and the Pegasus comes into view is amazing. You only see part of the ship, which gives you a feeling of just how big it is.

The look of relief and joy on the faces of the crews on both ships is overwhelming. You can almost hear both crews thinking: “No longer alone! We’re no longer alone! We have a chance now; we actually have a CHANCE!”

I remember this moment and how happy and exhilarated and hopeful I was when a SECOND Battlestar ship joined the group. If the Fleet was doing pretty decent with one Battlestar, then other would be such a great help. But of course, the worst enemies to humans will always be other humans.

This show was so intensive to watch for me back then when it premiered. No other show could give me such an experience ever since. The constant oscillation between hope and despair, the permanent presence of something sinister, which turned out to be not always outside. Most of all, the deeply shameful feeling what people are able to do to each other even on the verge of extinction. I loved the mix of realism (no aliens), mysticism (links to old greek mythology), logic in story development and characters behavior, twists in the plot (sometime brutal),  the music score.. just everything about it. I say one more big THX to all the creators of this fantastic show.

Special nod to Bear McCreary for his music in this scene. Goosebumps!

If you look closely at the Dradis screen at 3:58 you can see 2 stars next the Pegasus showing that it has a flag officer onboard.

I always liked the detail that after this, admiral kane says "welcome back to the colonial fleet" when pegasus is the one joining the fleet. I know it makes sense the she would say that given she has highest rank but I think it also foreshadows how little regard she gives to the civilian fleet and highlights the tension between her send adama early on. She derives authority solely from a now largely defunct military structure while adama was increasingly deriving authority from the loyalty and trust he inspired on galactica.

It's amazing how this episode started on such a light and hopeful note and ended on the complete opposite end of the scale.

Yeah it is a miracle How the hell did Ensign Ro get promoted to Admiral and given a Battlestar ?

Pegasus remains one of the sexiest battle starships I've ever seen, purely design-wise

Bear McCreary's music and the acting have me in tears by the time the 4 minute mark hits. They really put you into the shoes of the characters and make you feel their joy.

Despite how things went with Cain, this scene still gives me so much relief. You can feel it.
