Thanks, this saved me. What happened to me is I set my virtual machine as full screen on a 1440p ultra wide. After this my virtual machine went black. On all restarts went black. Needed to give move video memory it seems.

Fixed my issue! Thanks so much for the video. I bumped into this issue after installing Guess Additions with the hope of maximizing the Ubuntu VM to the full display. Your fix got rid of the black screen and allowed me to maximize VM to full display.

Ubuntu was working fine for me, but it was windowed and i wanted in it full screen,
So i selected vboxsvga in display mode,
After that it was showing that black screen
Even changing video memory to 60, it didn't changed,
Should I set video memory to maximum?

Hi,
I have this blinking cursor on black screen issue. I am using Vmware 17 to load Ubuntu 20.04 LTS guest on Window 10 Host.

This has trouble me for long and non solution worked.
The last stage of desktop login is not loading.

Please, can you advice?

Mine is set to 128Mb and whenever i first start it, i choose "try or install Ubuntu" on the black and white screen, and nothing happens after that.
