In this lesson, I show you how to fix errors in the AutoCAD start tab missing or not showing. Don’t Worry! It’s Simple and Easy.

Issue:
When launching AutoCAD the Start screen is missing or no longer showing.

Reasons:
1.0 When the STARTMODE (system variable) value is 0, the Start tab closes and will be disabled when you launch the AutoCAD application.

2.0 If you are running AutoCAD in a single document mode (SDI =1), the Start tab will be not displayed.

Solutions:
Do the following:

1.0 Turn STARTMODE on:

Start a new blank drawing from an existing DWT.
Type STARTMODE in the command line.
Set this variable to 1.
Restart AutoCAD.

Note: If the variable is affected by a custom profile or settings, it may be necessary to cycle the variable between 0 and 1 a couple of times, restarting AutoCAD each time the variable is changed for it to fully reset.

2.0 Turn the SDI variable OFF:

Start a new blank drawing from an existing DWT.
Type SDI in the command line.
Set the variable to 0.
Restart AutoCAD.

3.0 Reset AutoCAD to Defaults:
