So about a week ago I posted something in regards to BCAA's... and thus began the controversy! Apparently some people are saying BCAA's are no good, others are asking me which ones I take. Some say i'm even selling this stuff. i'm not. So before we get all butthurt, let's talk about it, ok?

Holy shit, somebody who has done an assload of research and went balls deep into support of BCAA's that is still willing to be open to the results of more research and the possibility of adjusting their opinion - I wish more people in the community could be like you Layne.

I use bcaa powder for muscle sorness. In my experience it helps me feel less sore and recover faster. But I have never tried whey protein so I don't know how it compares.

An integral part of the prep protocol for people I work with simply for recovery purposes. And it allows them to drink something sweet while on prep, which is a nice mental break and is a benefit in itself

My personal experience with bcaa. Is positive. I started noticing at some point when my energy starts dropping and fatigue starts creeping in post workout during the day - at that time if I drink bcaa mix it puts a floor to the energy dip. So now I use them regularly

Layne, any potential use for BCAAs (reduction in DOMs for example), why would you not just use an EAA supplement with the full spectrum of essential aminos? What benefit does 3/9 have over 9/9? Thanks. Fan of your work.

Can you do a video or a few on how you became and nutritionist. Age, what careers you were looking at, why you didn’t choose to be an registered dietitian and different job options... thanks!

Ps. I am doing my prerequisites to apply to coordinated programs In dietetics next year.

I'll just say this. I took creatine just by itself pre & post (split the serving). I would be soar 4 a few days. Once I took cre with BCAAs any pain was completely gone 12 to 24 hours latter. Of course yor results may vary

What about EAA vs BCAA? Pros and cons of both? Is it worth adding to high protein diets? And how do each affect MPS? In a fasted and non fasted state? and if you answer my questions, thanks man and if not... well thanks anyways... you always put out good content so I still learn from it regardless 👍🏼 💪🏼

It's Zero cal flavored water that certainly doesn't hurt when it comes to recovery. If it helps you hydrate better, taste good and can aid in recovery along the way then I say why not

I personally love BCAA flavor to help with hydration. A gallon of water with BCAAs is no problem!

my take on BCAA's is that, when Im anabolic and my body craves protein, that all the eating you do, meat, beef, whatever, if there was some alternative to having to eat a 3/4 of a steak every 1.5-2 hours that that alternative would be very attractive. I could take a protein shake instead, or a serving of BCAA's, or powdered leucine, to replace having to eat all the fucking time, your liver has to do all that work, at that point way easier to digest

I definitely enjoy them during a fat loss phase. I personally feel like it does offset hunger, maybe just mentally. And that's 100% aside from any scientific data or breakdowns of their formula.

Hey Layne, would you say BCAAs would help some with muscle preservation when you’re in a cut or in a deep cut and your bf% is getting low?

In your book u have mentioned that bcaa's are good for fighting tryptophan against seretonin production and helps in performance and better to have them for calorie restricted diet to extend mps by providing atp after getting metabolized which would have been done by carbs..

Thank you for this video! I value your opinion on this topic. I take BCAAs daily. I put a two scoops into a gallon of water and drink it throughout my day.

It looks funny when I'm drinking a jug of orange or yellow liquid. Sometimes people think I am drinking cleaning solution, or pee! When I am asked what I am drinking, I typically say, "it's BCAAs; branch chain amino acids. It's supposed to help with muscle recovery." Most people understand and leave it at that. But some people give me a blank look. For those whom stare at me expectantly, I continue, "it's basically Kool-aid for body builders. It makes my water taste better and then I'm guaranteed to drink my gallon of water each day." Most people get it then.

Thanks for reaffirming my muscle recovery line. It's nice to know that I'm not spreading misinformation!

I'd be interested to find out more about the recovery benefits. At the minute I'm reluctant to add more volume to my training because of my 12 month old I have to lift, carry and run around after no matter how sore I am the next day.

Would love to hear your thoughts on "The Fasting Fatman" (on YouTube) who did a 150 day water fast.

Recovering quicker allows for more volume meaning more hypertrophy right? So I guess if it does promote recovery it is "indirectly anabolic"?
