As a o/o over the road driver. For the new drivers, don’t carry enough tools To change a transmission or any major job because you are not going to be doing that on the side of the road anyway. But keep clamps light bulbs and enough tools to change belts and hoses. Listen if your an owner operator and you can’t afford to get your truck fixed then you are working at the wrong place. Keep trucking be courteous to other drivers and God bless you and be safe.

As a O/O for 25 years My advice is don't buy a truck if you can't turn any wrenches a driver needs to have tool skills and a mechanical concept of repair. NEVER DO LEASE PURCHASE ITS A SCAM. Ive never done a lease purchase, lease purchase means you don't have money and chances are no concept of business. . Fuel is your biggest expense then tires. Older trucks to avoid DEF isn't good buisness base on over the road vs local running Ive owned Freightliner, kenworth Volvo and currently a 2019 Mack From Cats, to Detroit's to D13, M8 again fuel economy and comfort its key. The engine and transmission spec to your work. This is my opinions Be profitable and safe.

As far as electrical problems. I knew a ace technician who had a set of diamond files. He used to disconnect connections, clean the the insides, then put electrical grease and reconnect them. It saves a ton of $ .

Detroit series 60 is a very reliable engine. Too bad all those after treatment on the newer engines give so much problems.

I met this mechanic and just brought my truck from them. He’s pretty solid.

I've been driving since 1998 and Steve impressed me with his knowledge. I especially loved the part where he said a dealer will often change the oil before selling the truck ; ) I did not know to check for oil sitting in the injector socket either. The question I would have asked him is how do you find out if you have a good or bad heater core and if the head gasket is blown.

Remember one thing, the reason you want to buy a truck in the first place is for more money but as they said in the video, most don’t have money to fix the truck!

You have motivated me so much with your video, I worked 12 months with Swift. Now I am going to buy my very own truck and I will be starting with this tanker company. Thank you, mothatrucker.

I would also pull a RigDig report which would show the trucks history, if it's been in a accident, title history, how many owners, out of service and so on.

I’m 99.9% sure that’s LRM, Pompano Beach location. Ive bought 2 trucks from them already and i can honestly say I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get in a truck then talk to them! My first experience was so good that on the 2nd truck I went ahead and got it without even checking it out in person until the day I picked it up. One truck 140k miles on one and around 175k on my 2nd. Other than PMs I’ve bought a starter. You won’t find better people to work with. I plan to buy one from them sometime in 2022. They even offer a 3 day exchange policy if you aren’t fully satisfied! I worked with Chris both times, awesome guy. Check ‘em out!!

I'm glad to this video because in just that little time I've learned something I didn't know, as far as the truck surging, my truck is not doing it, but I have been parked next to truck that were surging like that. Big ups to you and keep bringing that useful information

Finding metal in that filter means its doing its job, don't assume that the pump is going bad. Its possible that the pump was changed already and that's leftover from trying to clean the tanks out. I noticed a frame mount filter which will catch anything before actually going into the fuel module. Its also possible, that truck in the video has already experience a pump failure and that's why the frame mounted filter is there.

Don't buy a used truck from one of the used truck dealers that buys trucks from a auction. The auction yard typically sells the truck for less than sixteen thousand dollars and move trucks to their used truck dealers yard and they will sell the truck for thousands more than they paid. Don't buy from these guys. Go to an auction and just observe do this first observe what trucks sell for. Look and listen for problems and just observe what trucks sell for. You will be proud that you have took some time and looked first.

Also have a dyno test done & check for blow by & I try to buy from a owner op with all the paper work done on maintenance that shows if he is lazy or not lol

I hear that a lot when I park at the truckstop. Call me crazy but I did a lease purchase but I paid off my truck and I’m still running my same dedicated run. Yeah I did a couple of small repairs that I could do but the major stuff I went to the shop. But I was fortunate to have a good used truck. Small issues but it runs good.
