Razer would have been much better off making a reboot of their original Edge Pro to go head to head with the Steam Deck

@4:00" You guys should really mention that Razer only updated that chart to 6GB for the Wifi version AFTER they started selling them - for months prior (and during the pre-order window) they advertised the Wifi model as 8Gb RAM - AND the "New G3x Gen 1" that promised the latest Adreno GPU is actually just an SD888 - AND it doesn't support exFAT format, so running anything off the Sd card bigger than 4GB is a no-go.

There's two things wrong with the route Razer went: the Ayn Odin Lite is out, which also has 5G for ~$200, and is a dedicated Android gaming device, and Aya Neo is coming out with the Pocket Air, both of which can be used as dedicated cloud gaming with some emulation, and for the same price as the Razer Edge, you can get Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. Razer is kinda shooting themselves in the foot with the price tag, but the hardware being able to be utilized with other phones is a decent idea.

The biggest problem with this and other cloud gaming devices is that they are devices. Cloud gaming could totally be a huge thing, but let us use our phones. They already have similar if not better hardware in them. If they let Google Stadia run on the Pixel, they could sell more Pixels than the ever dreamed of selling Stadia controllers.

Can't wait to buy one on clearance for a hundo in a few months lol.

So three use cases for this:
1. I want a separate device from my phone to have a portable and easily pocketable device because I worry about my phone's battery
2. I have a kid who loves gaming but they are too small for a steamdeck.
3. I'm looking for a nice, lower price tablet in the small/mini form factor

Update. The Edge is great for warzone mobile. The fans keep it cool and running smooth while my S23 Ultra barely makes it through a single game

As someone with an iphone. I love carrying around an android phone with a controller. Its way smaller than a steamdeck woulda been. Its also nice not getting any notifications on it. But compared to dedicated emulation devices i like having the option to replace the controller options

You can definitely use your phone and get a better experience. The selling point of something dedicated, like this is that you're not tying your phone up and sapping your battery with a game. Is it 100% a necessity? Nah, but it's definitely something that could be a nice to have. I think the main issue with this one is the specs for the screen are great, but the processor isn't. Same goes for Logitech's cloud gaming device

I think this device makes a better case study for a phone AND the Razer Kishi (either V1 which is $40 right now, or V2 at $99). I don't think it's a complete loss for Razer. I just think that most people would be better suited by products that they already have a available for customers.

That's the problem with a lot of these Android based devices, no matter how much potential a gimmick something has it's still going find itself beholden to being built off an Android tablet and software designed for phones.

If it was better optimized for battery life and/it had a bigger battery, I could maybe understand it. But I ultimately agree with Matt, I would rather buy a Steam Deck over one of these.

matt took my steam deck and now the razer edge 5g is the only way to game in the This Is basement

I just got it and I love it. The screen is great and plays all the games and media I want it too. I have the 5G Version.

I totally agree with matt!!! You really need a 5g connection to play most modern games effectively on the go. 4g has too much latency which makes gaming on the go crappy.

I'm not alone in thinking this that the whole "dedicated Android game streaming device" category is stupid. Either get a Switch or Steam Deck. Or if Android gaming and emulation is your thing and your current phone isn't up to the task, maybe its time to just upgrade your phone to one that is up to it. If all you want to do is emulate, get one of the many Anbernic or Retroid devices or something similar and save your $$. For the vast majority of people, just gaming on their phone or getting a better phone instead of this or the Logitech or something similar is the route to go.

Just picked this up for $150 used, very pleased with it as a sort of regular utility tablet (I’m working on getting Linux running on it natively). It’s basically the only modern tablet on the market under 8inches, and more powerful than any 8inch tablet other than the Legion Y700.

And I thought 299 for the G Cloud was pricey for a cloud console. WTF RAZER.

This isn't a bad product, it's just very specific. You need to be looking for exactly this in order to want it over the other options out there. It's a very niche market that they're going for and that's why it doesn't fit in anywhere else
