THIS IN NOT JUST A MOUSE THING. I was told to do this for my 150 dollar air fryer. (They sent me a new one and I just re attached the cable)

Even if it's not a detachable cable, resoldering on the wires is super simple, your cable will just be a few inches shorter XD

for those confused cause i kinda was: they want you to cut the wire to ensure that you cant fraud them by getting a new product when yours is perfectly fine

Google : “Go to the original shop from where you bought it and let them fix it”

have picked up so many large high end appliances in like new condition that have this done for waranty - being electrical-engineering inclined, with all of them it was a case of removing the back panel, feeding the cut power cord back through its strain relief, and splicing it in with some twist caps to the cable left inside of the appliance

This tatic is well used in bicycle industry, if your cycle is under warranty and it breaks, the manufacturer would ask you to actually cut the frame(some also request to send a small cut part back to them) before sending over a new frame

This is pretty standard for low margin products. It's much lower cost to the company to just ship you a new one after verifying the original product was "destroyed" even though in 90% of cases it can still be repaired, recycled, etc, than them spend labor hours on verifying condition for warranty claims by processing items sent in by consumers.

Like 10 or 12 years ago, my razor nostromo died, literally started smoking. They had me cut the cable and sent me a replacement. They didn't make it anymore and sent me the next model instead, the new tartarus. Good guys.

Steelseries made me snap my headphones in half lol

Steel series does it too it doesnt matter about the cost. They also want you to break more than the wire. For my wireless headset they had me break the ear cups off and cut the wire connecting them. It's a lot more than just cut wire

This is pretty common as far as warranties go. If you buy an above ground pool the warranty label on the liner usually has a cut out around it, they want you to send them a picture of that fully cut out before they’ll replace the liner.

Very common practice.. Turtlebeach essentially do the same but don’t require proof. They ask you to throw the headset away while you wait for the replacement.

Logitech also did that back in the day. A friend of mine had a G5 with an unreliable Scroll wheel. He cut the cable and sent the photo. I got the "broken" mouse, fixed the scroll-wheel-sensor, reattached the USB-cable and had a well working gaming mouse for about 5 years.

Had to do this for my SteelSeries headset. Seemed VERY weird, but it all worked out.

Yep. I did this the other year. I just wanted to send the busted mouse back to Razer and get a replacement. Instead they had me cut the wire. I sent them the photo of me cutting it. They sent me a new mouse. I decided a few months later to just replace the wire on my busted mouse. I got one off eBay for something like $8 or whatever. Took me no time to replace the wire.

The problem with the mouse was the little tiny black box thing that is responsible for clicking on the main mouse button. I just YouTubed how to fix it. The little part was a few bucks on eBay and I got a $6 cheap soldering tool from Walmart. EZ fix and I learned how to solder a little bit.

They don't care if you commit warranty fraud, they want to claim insurance.
