This is the most American thing ever put on film.

When I saw this in the theater in 1981 the audience was laughing so hard after he shot the guy you could not hear a word of dialogue for two or three minutes. They were in that big an uproar.

After the swordsman gets shot and falls down, one of the villagers picks up his sword and runs off with it, as if to say "Hey guys! Look what I got!"

Poor Terry Richards, the stuntman who practiced this epic sword fight scene for months, never even gets his full credit. Poor guy had to take a dive due to Harrison Ford having intestinal issues. Where's the love for the stuntman?

The rumor is that Ford was sick with the stomach flu, so they just did this scene quickly to get it over with.

IMO, this is the best "subverting expectations" gag in movie history. Still funny after more than 40 years, even if you know that it's coming.

Streamers, "He's the final boss!"'
Indiana Jones, "CHEAT CODE!" BLAM!

He's like, "I don't have time for this bullsh**, F*** YOU!"😅

Harrison Ford was reportedly ill at the time, maybe the flu, and at his suggestion he simply said why don’t Indy just shoot the guy and move on 🤣😂

Indy: Handling a sword doesn't make you bulletproof, son.

He was born the son of a great swordsmen.
He trained his entire life with hundreds of swords.
He became a true master of death.
Then he faced Indy.
It was over after a demo!!😅

There was supposed to be an epic sword fight here unfortunately Harrison Ford, Jon Rhys Davies and several others got bad food poisoning before they filmed this scene and Harrison (clearly suffering in this scene from illness) says "why don't I just shoot him" and the director agreed.

The gun shooting of the sword man is the most United States of American thing ive seen.

It's the biggest, most instantaneous laughter I have heard an audience make. I remember the second time I went to see raiders of the Lost ark, I brought a tape recorder and recorded the audience's reaction. Nothing like hearing a totally silent audience burst into laughter unlike anything I've ever heard before. I still have it on cassette tape somewhere! You couldn't get that instant laughter in a theater any longer because everybody has seen it now.

Love the callback to this scene at the end of temple of doom except this time indiana doesnt have his gun 😂😂

While the evil swordsman is demonstrating his skills, Indiana Jones was thinking: “I don't have the time for this”.

Probably my favorite single moment in all movie history. Sheer genius.

Who would’ve expected that a bad food poisoning would create one of the most iconic and funniest scenes in movies?

The reason Harrison did the pew pew thing is he was sick as a dog that day (you can see it in his face) and they needed it to end early. It peeved off the swordsman since he had practiced the fight for weeks and it was over in 10 seconds. It turned out to be a character defining moment anyway.
