I’ve had 180lbs of bread flour stored since 2020. Even the 55lbs sack which has been open for most of that time, is still usable, although it has a cakey consistency. Even then, if you use it for fortified doughs, like ChelseaBuns, it’s fine. I’m trying to work my way through it all, whilst on a diet😫😭😭😭🤣♥️😛 🍞

I live in a warmer climate than you and I find that my flour acquires a rancid odour during summer, especially whole wheat flour, if stored outside the fridge or freezer. I have found that if the rancid smell is slight, I can still obtain good results baking banana bread.

Will it kill you if you use flour that is "off"? Mine smells barely stale, is it off?

Can i use a month old expired flour? It is stored properly but not in a cool place and there is no mold and bugs.

What does smelling off mean? All you're telling me is if it smells "off" throw it out. Does that mean it smells like beets?

This was amazing! Thank you for this information. I have pantry goods like flour from the pandemic and didn’t want to throw them away unnecessarily and you just taught me how to better store them and to know if they’ve gone bad. I cook with my nose so that’s a super easy fix for me. Thanks again 🥰

So good to know that flour will last longer if stored properly. Will flour last longer if I us a mylar bag and oxygen absorber? What about sealing with a food saver? Thanks for this information.

Can you keep flour in freezer for long period time. I stored mine in original packaging in freezer bag for xtra protection. Will moisture of freezer harm flour

Weevils will appear if you leave the flour at room temperature, when flour goes bad the eggs will hatch, weevils will eat through paper or plastic if you see them on the wall or floor check your whole pantry.

Doesn’t the flour oxidize when exposed to air? The floor bags at the store are breathable.

My garage gets hot in the summer. I bought a 40 lb bag. Can i put the flour in containers- freeze it to kill any bugs- then take it out and stock it in a cooler place under my stairs. Were having the corona crisis now. Im sure il be using it this year? Bread and torillas
