A:
1. Contains haemoglobin that can combine reversibly with oxygen to be transported to body cells.
2. Does not have a nucleus so that there is more space for more haemoglobin, allowing it to transport more oxygen
3. It is biconcave in shape, increasing surface area to volume ratio, hence increasing rate of absorption and release of oxygen.

Red blood cells have a function to transport oxygen. It possesses a biconcave shape which allows the cell to have more surface area. Furthermore, it contains hemoglobin which has the function to bind to oxygen as it has a function of transporting oxygen, it is thin so molecules specifically oxygen can diffuse easily. In addition to this, red blood cells have no nucleus so it can contain more hemoglobin for oxygen transportation.

can large surface area to volume ratio be a reason?
