What you can do isntead of adding is to just transpose. It makes it more understandable, for me.

if you have 3x^2+243=0
if you solve it by not moving the 243 to the other side then you move the 9 to the other side you get x=-9
and if you move the 243 on the other side from the start, you get x=-9i
so you just left me more confused than before, you should get the same answer
