I remember trying to do this kind of thing in Unity a few years ago. I don't know if it has improved since then, but this is massively easier.

This is a great series. Very chill, very clearly explained. It really sped up learning about this tool and it I'm finding it incredibly useful for all kinds of things, from designating climbable walls to spikes and bottomless pits.

I’m just starting to work with custom tile data for various footstep sounds depending on the tile type and the documentation for working with tile map custom data kinda sucks (which is unusual for Godot documentation). This video cleared up the confusion i had in a simple straightforward way and in a way I have not been able to find elsewhere, so thank you for this. Very helpful.

That's cool. In 3.5 I remember mapping the tile ID's a dictionary to have that kind of functionality.

This was so awesome! Your code for getting mouse click to tilemap cell is why I gave the like as it's exactly what I'm working on now and it went from "ermm, so local coord divided by tilesize gets in the tiles ballpark" to "clicking on the tile gives the actual tile and can filter it out from there!" Great stuff, guess I'll watch after 1:59. Something about seeds..
edit: global coord. Local made no sense.

Crying 😭😭 I had the last tutorial working great, but I keep getting getting an error with this one that there's no custom layer and my game keeps printing "can't place here" even though I should be able to. I've been trying to fix it all night. 😭

Thanks for sharing, Jackie, you're great. Tilemaps, while improved, could use more love in Godot 4, i mean documenting stuff like custom data.
