Can we all agree that the left lane is for passing, please?

Gets annoying how many people in the US don't know this.

They should play this on a loop on the TV in the DMV.

Now if only everyone used their turn signals when they're required to.

If you didn’t know: there’s a reason there’s a sign that says “slower traffic keep right”

And quit driving the same speed as the guy next to you

You need a more sophisticated kind of driver's license in order to enforce this rule. That's the reason why it actually works here in Germany. Also, this golden rule includes a strict prohibition of overtaking on the right.

I do a lot of long distance driving overnight. It’s blows my mind how often people will be cruising along in the left lane, with no one else even around. Now, one could ask, what’s it hurting if no one is around? Nothing. But then I’ll come up behind them, be forced to slow down, follow them for a little while, and they refuse to move over and let me pass. Now I got to pass on the right, and low and behold, suddenly they are speeding up. Next I’ll be doing 90 to try and pass someone that was doing 70, while rapidly approaching a semi. Alright, I’ll slow down and get behind them, I don’t want to sharply cut over inches away from hitting the semi. What a surprise, we are now going 70 again.

I'm from Southern California, so obviously I know everything about driving. It blows my mind how quickly people will cut over to sit in the left lane too. People will legitimately cut 6 lanes from the on ramp, at once, and just squat in the left for miles.

UK viewers - watch this in the mirror.

imagine you driving that slow on the left lane on the German autobahn and another guy behind you is coming at you doing 200km/h...

In Germany we call it Rechtsfahrgebot and we are taught this from early on when beginning driving school. It basically consists in driving as far right as possible on roads with multiple lanes. Calling it a fast lane would be incorrect as it doesn’t matter how fast you’re going. You’re only supposed to drive in the left lane when passing another vehicle. It’s not uncommon to be on Autobahn and being overtaken on the left by a car doing 300 km/h and then see it getting back into the right lane. This is because once you’re done overtaking, regardless of your speed, you need to get back into the right lane.

Got my license like a year ago and on the permit test or in my classes this was NEVER talked about once. I always assumed that the left lane was for speed not for passing.

This was common knowledge when I started driving, decades ago, but now so many drivers are completely ignorant or feel entitled to do what ever they want.

Every state needs to have more strict laws on this.

They need signs on the left side of the left lane reminding people it's a passing lane only.

If you do this in Germany it doesn't take more than 10 seconds until you get forced to move the lane by the flash lights of the cars behind you

Yea... this is like one of the first things they teach you when you get your licence in Sweden. Our left lane is always empty. Is this really not something they teach you in the US?

This is the kind of content that I subscribe for, serious, informative, and no sarcasm.

I was confused at first as an Australian, but I realised you drive on the opposite side of the road

7 years later and people still drive cluelessly now as they did back then. The yt algorithm needs to bless this video into everyone's feed.
