Keep your Driver LOW AND SLOW to Improve your Golf Drives

Low and slow during the takeaway for longer golf drives

In this golf tips video we will review how keeping your golf takeaway slow and low to the ground can help you hit better drives. This swing thought argues that keeping your clubhead low to the ground is coherent with the fact that the ball is placed forward in your stance when you use your driver. In that position, the ball is really located in the front half of the swing arc and it is therefore normal that you keep the clubhead low to the ground during the first few feet of travel.

Moreover, this swing thought encourages you to focus on your shoulder rotation rather than using your wrists too early in your backswing. This will help produce a wider golf swing and ultimately more distance in your drives. Finally, in stressful match or important round situations keeping your takeaway slow will help with your tempo and make sure you are not rushing your swing.

This really helps with my fairway woods off the deck. I was struggling to find consistency until one day at the range I slowed up my takeaway and made sure to finish my backswing before the transition, and presto! I consistently flush my fairway woods! A tip you gave in another video was keeping your hands as far away from your body as possible, that along with keeping my elbows together has improved my game twofold. Cheers

Great video that I’ve watched before but as I’m struggling with slicing because I’m swinging way to fast and I tend to tighten my arms and swing out to in vs in to out. Thanks for the video and great clear instructions

Love this. Slowed my takeaway down and it's helped me stop dipping my head

I was always told that even if you took the club back 40 mph, you have to get to zero mph at the top. If you snatch it back quickly, the club rebounds to start down. If you're perfectly on plane when you do that, great, but if not, it's too late to change the path once you're on the way to impact. Cam Young certainly takes it back slowly and he's one of the longer hitters on tour.

low takeaway as far awyy as possible helps me get my shoulders well past 90 degrees, and a better shoulder tilt (right high . left low)

you say a lot of interesting things but with too fast a flow and without prioritizing them which is a shame for memorization and also causes a perceptible tongue click with each breath. These are common faults of many teachers on golf videos. Given the average age of the golfer, slower speech, better controlled breathing, highlighting a limited number of points to memorize would give more impact to your words which are always very interesting and relevant.
