Thank you for this video. I got my diagnosis as an adult back in 2021. A few months later I discovered your Obsidian content and my first thought was: "this guy has to be autistic too". Turns out I was right but you didn't know about that...

I also struggle with abnormal eating behavior (being "picky" and disgusted as a kid, anore*ia and purges as teen, switching between phases of binging and orthorexia as an adult), sleep problems and anxiety. And so much more.... In January 2023 I reached my highest weight (BMI > 45 😱) and made the decision to be absolutely strict about my autistic needs regarding food intake. I reduce friction to handle my executive dysfunction (frozen berries and "Quark" - German cottage cheese - every day to get a lot of protein and less planning). I do not longer eat in public, socially or sensory complex situations, unfamiliar contexts or any state of discomfort. I have the privilege of being able to reject any food that I'm uncomfortable with (taste, texture, whatsoever). I implemented rules when to eat what. During the last 17 to 18 months I lost half of my body weight and felt never healthier and probably never was.

For a non-autistic person that would probably be an alarming "unhealthy" behavior. But not for me. I get a proper nutrition, have reduced levels of anxiety because I'm not in overload due to food intake for most of the day anymore. And I look absolutely fantastic. Yep, I checked with my therapist to reassure that this is the right way for me.

I accept the fact that I will never have a "normal" eating behavior. That's okay. I'm not "normal" by definition. So why do I have to act as I was normal?

But I take your opinion on sleep to heart. Yes. I procrastinate to feel a level of control. But in reality I would have more control if I decided to sleep...

Thanks for the video! Most things and probllems you've described are things I struggle with, so watching this video made me feel a bit more seen (like I'm not alone in the struggles). I'm being assessed for ADHD for a while, and throughout that time my psychologist started suspecting Austism was also there. When she said that I didn't feel bad, because it made sense. Right now I still feel like I don't have things sorted, I still don't feel well; all from medication, diet, exercise and overall well-being, but I am actively looking for ways to improve, and videos like these really help!

As a father to a boy on the spectrum I appreciate your honesty and that you talk from an “inside” aspect. Ty.

I also have a rack in my garage and learning stuff. Can’t wait for your health video. I use all apple. And want a way to get my data locally. Hope you have a solution. :)

🐄 I have always struggled to properly feeding myself. All parts - feeding myself enough, eating the right mix of things, eating food before it goes bad, being overwhelmed with all the steps. When I realized I was undereating, I would just match the amount others were eating to compensate... but I'm 5' tall and don't need anywhere near what other people do. Thankfully I'm now with a partner who enjoys taking care of our meals and I couldn't be more grateful.

Also, science needs to develop a way for us hot sleepers to also have weight. LOL Like, I'll sleep under a slate slab if that's what it takes.

What a great video! I love that you work in this sort of content alongside your other work. I especially appreciate that these videos share the ups and downs of your personal experiences instead of succumbing to more clickbaity content like "Top 10 Reasons to Use Obsidian for Stimming!!1!"

Many of the most important people in my life are on the spectrum so learning more from people I respect like you is valuable to me. I'm ND for very different reasons (acquired TBI) so I particularly want to thank you for helping me better understand where we have shared experiences and when there are circumstances that I can learn from.

Oh yeah... your Obsidian content was a huge help getting me on track with it as tool that has changed my life, so double thanks!
