Thanks for posting this video, I've always had trouble with simultaneous equation and surds but this really helped!

Hi, Single bracket factorising arises when there is at least 1 term (number/letter) common to each term in the expression e.g.
x^2 + 4x - there is an x in both so x(x+4)
xy + 2y - there is a y in both so y(x+2)

However where there is no common term in the expression then if you can factorise you may get two (or more) brackets

e.g.
x^2+5x+6 - there is no common factor in x^2, 5x and 6 so think 2 brackets - what multiplies to 6 + adds to 5 - (x+3)(x+2)
Hope this helps + good luck revising.Mr H

Hi, my GCSE maths exam is on Monday and I was just wondering, on your video, question 9a, how do you know whether to use a single or use double brackets?
