I feel like getting some anger off my chest today so here's 5 things I hate about the fandom in 60 seconds or less.
1. Stigma. Yeah there's always been lots of negative headlines about furries, nothing's ever really changed here. The more mainstream furry gets, the more pushback we'll receive.
2. Bad actors. Some creepy people like to use furry as their shield to justify their gross or illegal actions.
3. Social media discourse. This isn't unique exactly to the furry fandom, but each fandom has their own daily discourse topic which changes like the moon's cycles.
4. Classism and fursuit politics. This is one of the ones you don't hear alot about, and it's the only one on this list that I'd argue has been improving over time, but the tried and true formula that cute or sexy fursuit = bigger audience. It's not the suiter's fault, it's the audience's.
5. We don't really know what we want. Any time a public figure defends us or wants to perform for us, there always seems to be a disproportionate amount of pushback.

The classism is completely shit. I remember when if you got a fursuit that didn’t cost a foot or leg or made one you were awesome. Now fursuits are crazy expensive and making your own is like peasant work….

My biggest pet peeve is just how new furries can come in thinking this is a friendly non toxic community with little to no drama only to discover that this is far from the truth. While for the most part yeah furries do live up to what the community is supposed to represent, there is still a level of toxicity, discourse, and negative shit that exits. And it's the same for all Fandom, not just the furry Fandom but when I decided I was a furry and started watching videos about furries, by furries a lot of it was just super coating it trying to hide the bad after taste

I used to say the whole drama thing was a big negative for me (took a break from being active in the community for a few years because of it), but ever since a bunch of people the switch from Twitter to Bluesky, I can honestly say that it was mostly just the algorithm boosting the drama, making it seem like a bigger issue than it actually was.

As a furry that has fequented the chats regarding titanic history (many arguments) the space program history (yeah it's there too) and Nascar, (y'all already know. That fifth thing mex said? Yea!) I've quite enjoyed getting to tell some others they're acting as bad as if not worse than furries 😅

I've been a furry for as long as I can remember, and I think you've hit all of my pet peeves. Preach it. Though, if I had to come up with my own, I would say the hypocrisy(?) I hear about how this is a very loving and accepting community, and then I see all the toxicity that takes place. A bunch will say to love and accept everyone, but the moment they hear a differing opinion, a flame war will erupt, and it can be over the most trivial thing.

I can agree with every one of these, your critiques are justifiably fair, and it aggravates me on so many levels on how some people of the community can be and it’s incredibly gross that awful people will try to use being a furry as a defense for themselves, it’s absolutely horrid and the fact that some people will join the horrid persons side really ticks me off

As someone who's been a furry for already 4 months now (jesus, time moves fast lol), I feel that those critiques that you've shared are very understandable and fair; not to mention, I also agree with your point about folks trying to use their furry identity to hide very harmful (and illegal) behaviors.

Even as a pup, I'm also very familiar with the politics surrounding what to wear and if what you have makes you a part of that community. That said, I've never taken those type of discussions as seriously since such gear (i.e. fursuits, pup hoods, paws, tails, etc.) are what I find to only be the colorful sprinkles on top and not the entire sundae. :3 🐾

If you want to talk about general pet peeves in general I’d say it’s being the butt of every joke. Despite the fact that every fandom has its issues it seems the furry fandom in specific gets called out the most. Yes it is true the louder ones are unfortunately the more annoying ones and fucking an animal isn’t necessarily a good look (even though I refuse to admit a zoophile is a furry.) However that’s more of an issue with the people outside the fandom. Inside the fandom it’s probably what you said: the amount of discourse that goes on. Once more this is an issue with every fandom but I would prefer if everyone got along and didn’t argue about stupid stuff, however we can’t live in a perfect world I suppose.

One thing I hate about the Owl House fandom is when they ship Luz/amity with other characters when they are canonically dating, especially with the Lunter ship cause their basically siblings

Regarding the second and third… I'm not going to touch the third rail outright and get into the *really* touchy stuff, but I will say that throwing around accusations of actual harm by pulling a Ship of Theseus on something even mildly controversial that someone said or did—for example, "X follows Y, who has drawn Warrior Cats smut" -> "X is into feral art" -> "X is a [starts with a z]" -> "X is pro-animal abuse"—is a disturbingly common tactic across certain sections of the fandom as a way of getting even with people, and it is *especially* weaponised against vulnerable marginalised people along lines which are often transphobic and ableist and occasionally racist and classist, often with strong shades of DARVO. Obviously people don't like talking about this out of fear of seeming like you're defending the indefensible, but I've seen it happen enough times to become extremely wary of a certain genre of callout.

Funny furry hate story time. When I was in HS for project management 1, a girl had a cosplay/fursuit making business and for the final project of the year, she had to choose a partner even though she was using her actual business. She was basically the embodiment of what 4chan thinks of Tumblr feminist users(woke, vegan, etc) and since we both played the same games she chose me. The rest of the kids were "southern country kids" who all live in the suburbs and don't do "county" activities but have liftkit trucks so they're country so that obviously helped me. So she just told me to do nothing and I could do whatever I want, so I spent the final month checking out early to either play video games or go hunting. Well the final day where we do our presentations, for an example of products she makes she BROUGHT A FURSUIT HEAD AND WEARS IT MID PRESENTATIONS AS A EXAMPLE. She even got in a spat(which was not the first one) with a few of the country boys while I'm just sitting up there besides the projector. Was definitely an all time embarrassing thing to happen to me in my life. Pretty sure it's karma for my dad and I going hunting but not telling her I'm not a vegan.

Every. Single. One. Of these I agree on, I would just add politics in general and also the overwhelmingly negative reception of characters/fursonas with either guns or Anti-Hero/scoundrel-esque personalities (i.e. my fursona being a mercenary). Like, come on... this whole thing is about freedom of creativity, shouldn't we be able to create whatever we want (excluding MAPs, Zoos, Loli, cub, etc.)?

What I hate the most about the fandom after 15 years is....

1) The injection of politics in everything now. I enjoy the fandom for escapism, not to hear more dreary political stuff.

2) If you say you're straight or have religious beliefs, everybody thinks it's cool to just start treating you like a 2nd class citizen.

3) The utter hypocrisy of saying this fandom is so accepting and tolerant of everybody. Yet the moment you have a differing opinion or disagree with somebody, they turn ragingly insane and ready to send out the cancel mobs.

4) Instead of focusing on the main issues that's plaguing this fandom like the rampant drug use at cons, the literal "PDF Files" within the fandom, or how prevalent STD's are getting spread, they'd rather just obsess on the most mundane of non-issues.
