I got invited by 2K & Firaxis to play the new Sid Meier's Civilization VII a couple weeks ago. I go over my experiences with the game.

I think I would have preferred a civ "level up" change rather than switch to a completely different one. Like you pick Rome and start with Kingdom, upgrade to Roman Republic, then to imperial Rome (not always accurate with historical timelines) and each time, your civ bonuses change based on playstyle and you have to pick from 3 new leaders randomly pulled from a pool but still tailored to your civ. That way your civ evolves, you get a choice of new leader/abilities but still have some RNG involved to make the game less predictable. So if you are Rome and choose to start with say Trajan, you may now have to pick between Caesar, Marcus Aurelias, or Augustus but knowing that if you pick that leader for this age, they will be unavailable in the next and you may get stuck with 3 "bad" choices for the type of run you want to do and will need to adapt your playstyle while still being immersed in the same civilization.

Off the top of my head, the civ switching, single-stack armies, and the way you expand your city are very Humankind. The Crisis mechanic is definitely from Stellaris. I like both of those games, so I'll keep an eye on it. If you do a series when it releases, I will be watching you play.

I was a big fan of Civ and I played every one, until Civ 5, which I thought sucked. For me the pinnacle of Civ was Civ 4 BTS. Civ 4 BTS really brought everything they had been doing until then together. The AI worked well and could form doom stacks and attack even across the ocean, which was a major weakness until BTS specifically. I pretty much disliked every change they made in Civ 5, except for hex tiles, which I think on it's own would be a big improvement for the series. However, the whole one unit per tile thing has always been awful imo. It's just a bunch of faf that adds almost nothing in terms of strategy, but increases the amount of micromanagement you have to do by a ton. I don't like city states, wtf is the point? They are just stuff on the map that don't play by the same rules the rest of the civs do. I always thought civ needed to get away from the heavy handed historic theming with the leaders in particular, it's not earth, the same leaders wouldn't be there anyway. The crisis idea is similar to stellaris's idea which really just serves as a way to arbitrarily force more stuff into the later phases of the game without putting the work in to making the game a deeper experience, it's lazy.

This actually sounds interesting. The last really good Civ was 4 in my opinion (I notice the background music is all from Civ IV during this video) I like the idea of the armies and the more flexible civs. Whether it works out in practice we'll see. But the formula definitely needed shaking up from the previous 2.

I'm hopeful that by tying your "new civ" choices to your history, they'll avoid the blandness that Humankind got from it

Game looks gorgeous but I'm not buying it unless they take out the 2k account requirement.

😂😂😂😂 Thank you for showing me that. I don't ever need to buy this game or wait for DLCs. It looks like it's either ARA and if that sucks then it's just back to crusader Kings the fact that these games don't have like a crusader Kings element now where you can have constantly new leaders and grow your civilization on top of like way better fighting. They just dumb down the game. They made it a port game where it's like an app. It's disgusting. These games should be epic by now and very long and instead they're worse than they were 20 years ago. That's disgusting that we keep playing games that are worse than they were 20 years ago. Civ one was better than this. Civ one was better than this😂😂😂😂 you obviously never played civilization 1 if you think this is decent at all
