Civilization 7: Triumph or Tragedy? - Civ 7 Review

Welcome to my Civilization 7 review and impressions video, where we'll talk about whether Civ 7 is actually any good. Is Civ 7 worth it? Has Civ 7 changed too much? Gone too far? From cities and towns, through to new diplomacy, combat commanders, ages and a raft of other changes - Civilization 7 has shaken up the civ formula.

Yet, I argue that many things have stayed the same, feel the same, and will largely be workable and familiar to civ players. The break from historically tied leaders sees another significant shift for the franchise. While leaders have never lived realistic timeframes, they have generally had historical ties to their civ. In Civ 7, that's up to you.

If the game holds up to performance, and you don't mind paying for some new civs or leaders that'll arrive each month (adding more diversity to a civ game already filled with an incredible number of combos!), you will probably like Civ 7. Civ fans should mostly feel at home here, and I'd guess the game will generally do well in review scores.

Cant wait to buy this and all DLC at 90% off in 8 years

These DLC tactics are getting out of hand. They clearly have a lot of features that could be ready at launch, that they are choosing to release separately in order to squeeze more out of DLCs.

I’m gonna sit this one out. This game has predatory monetization written all over it. The game is 70$ and yet DLCs planned for next month? F that. Sucks to see another beloved franchise fall by the wayside

I think the $70 price point, along with the near immediate DLC release is going to put enough people off to really affect initial sales, and honestly, I hope people don't support this form of monetization.

Everything's just flat, looks so two dimensional. The starting with a leader that's got nothing to do with your faction or even era just breaks my immersion too. I'm out, another 10 years on Civ 5.

The game should lose the Civilization name and change it to Leaderization

Before watching can say that monetization model is a tragedy.

Calling it now. People will pan this game on release, say how bad and different it is. Say how firaxis fumbled and how it's over for civ then 6 months later say how its the best civ and they're firing on all cylinders and how it was worth the wait. Standard civ player base response.

Amplitude tricked Firaxis into copying districts with VI, and then made Humankind to trick them into copying civ-switching. Now they're gonna swoop in with Endless Legend 2 and sweep. Devilish, Amplitude

i just bought civ 5 complete edition for $13, after 10+ years not touching it. It's a blast after adding community patch, and ingame editor

I'm sorry but I want to build a civilization that stands the test of time, not forced to arbitrarily go extinct after a set time. I want to defeat at least 12 other civilizations on a massive map, not a paltry 4 players on a puny map. Civ 7 sounds like its not for me. If you told me 15 years ago that I would not be interested in a Civ game I'd have called you mad yet here we are.

Bottom line: I want to roleplay as the god-king of a specific civilization, on marathon mode, on the largest map possible (and that better be very large, indeed).

Every decision made by the designers of Civ 7 is willfully in direct conflict with everything I've always enjoyed about the series, and no amount of gaslighting is going to change that reality; why can't people just admit that a large segment of longtime fans are just not going to enjoy this game, for the exact same reasons that others may be excited about it? We know what our preferences are, and this simply isn't it.

For the UI and the difficulty seeing the units, i think a large part is due to the unit tags (the symbol above them that shows what unit they are) looking much smaller than they are in 5 and 6. So they get lost in all the clutter. One positive I cant emphasize enough is how fantastic the water looks lol

This will be the first time I skip a Civ game, which is a real shame. Even while watching this video, I almost zoned out, but Jumbo’s voice managed to hold the last thread of my attention. Great video and review. Thank you.

pretty silly they thought certain civilizations like egypt are better off not existing in later eras but leaders are immortal? are we playing the game Civilization or Leaders?

Wow, congrats on 100k man. You’re great! Keep doing what you’re doing.

The whole thing of civ leaders like switching to a completely different civilization is just flat out weird. I think it’s going to be a catastrophic feature that they change at some point to try and salvage the game. It single handedly makes me not want to play as a huge civ fan.

As a kid who grew up playing Civ 1, I honestly think it's a sad that Sid Meir has allowed his legacy to be transformed into this fucking travesty.

Sid Meier's Humankind 2. No thank you.

17:20 No, you are NOT a moron. No need for self-deprecation, even disguised as comedy. You do good work and have worked to have such a big audience. Embrace your achievements.
