Perfect example that old age does not guarantee wisdom.

The mild kind of radiation that melts your skin off your flesh, your flesh off your bone and your bone from the inside out

This guy exemplified the old Soviet hardliners that were all over the government in the late 80s. Perfect casting.

Apparently the old man is a reference to a dying regime that failed to accomplish its goals. Still holding on to pride but in the end lost it all

The old guy is a fictional character but the sentiment is very real.

The air is glowing That’s not a good sign that usually means now would be a good time to leave before they start telling you you can’t and the state says no one is allowed to leave anymore

Shocker that the Soviet Union failed and burned

This is what the "state" is and becomes when it has too much power. All these young people yearning for big brother to take care of them need to realize that all the wisdom of the state is a few influential people making decisions based on politics and ego and that filters down to the millions who have to pay the price.

Old people don’t mean they’re always wise.

True, in fact the radiation was so contained in the facility that some random swedes across europe detected it.
