"it takes years to build and fill a city, minutes to destroy"

I grew up in USSR. The way this series recreated that world to every tiny detail is simply mind-blowing. Bravo!

This is just shattering. Imagine a convoy of busses coming into your town like that, and soldiers going into every building, looking behind every door. You barely know what's going on, the announcements only making clear that there may be a danger from the nearby power plant. And now you've been forced to abandon everything you've ever known. They said it was temporary, only a couple of days, but these people are still waiting to go home to this day.

The scariest part was the emergency announcement

This scene gave me immense respect for Boris, disobeying his superiors and getting those people out of there

Pripyat used to be called the city of future at that time. Now... Is a ghost town, and it still been for other 1000 years or more

Everyone must know how brave those policemen were. They stayed in an irradiated city for 11 years after the disaster, just to keep people out and prevent looting and vandalism. As well as their evacuation assistance with communications to Moscow.

I love how accurate the Prypiat looks like. I was raised in almost identical neighbourhood and for all the shit socialist architecture gets it was actually pretty cool - lots of open spaces, lost of plants, grass, sidewalks, wide streets etc.
Unlike concrete and glass of say New York where you can go for miles without seeing one god damned flower or blade of grass./

Fun fact when buses from Pripyat and surrounding area were leaving there were multiple radiatioin patrols constantly diverting the trafic to avoid the most polluted areas.

When they said that kids from Germany can’t go outside and then it panned over to kids in the heart of Chernobyl playing outside my jaw DROPPED I shit you not

I am a history nerd and I know this may sound a bit overhyped but I do love the detail of having a part of the original ABC News coverage at 0:18.

The music really drives this scene home in being heart wrenching and terrifying. People leaving their homes, taking only the essentials, expecting to return soon, leaving pets and such, only to never go home.

This and firefighters funeral is the saddest scenes :-(

Only one of many perfect scenes of a master piece series

They'll never step foot in Pripyat ever again.

I like how they used an actual broadcast of the incident. This show may not have portrayed EVERYTHING accurately, but I love that little attention to detail.

And thus one of the cleanest sources of energy was forever stained.
