Which canned fruit brands you do love and which do you avoid?

I love Del Monte canned peaches but I hate their fruit cocktail because of hard unripe pear pieces that are way too hard to eat.

If you don't get fruit cocktail canned in heavy syrup, just fruit juice, it only contains 8g of sugar...

Treat favorite: Oregon-brand canned purple plums. Yum.
Practical favorite: Tomatoes any which way, any which brand.
Also in plentiful stock in my pantry: Mango slices, apple slices (in water, not syrup, and which I just serve piled in a bowl loaded up with cinnamon), pumpkin puree, and whole-berry cranberry sauce.

As I've grown older and have no teeth, I eat/drink canned Cinnamon Applesauce which has a lot of sugar. My choice. Be safe.

We were big gardeners and grew butternut squash and cooked and froze them for pumpkin pies.

Canned pumpkin is something I keep stocked up on. I add it to my soups, muffins and dinner rolls

Who hasn't opened up a can of Fruit Cocktail and eaten it with a spoon and then drink the juice?

You can buy sugarless version of fruit cocktail---preserved in natural fruit juices only.

In Norway our canned fruit has very little sugar in it and it’s not in a thick syrup it’s very watery and refreshing

Hurray for pineapple, pumpkin/squash puree etc and all the joys of delightful blueberries (freeze them myself)! And a fresh peach or nectarine smells like heaven - and can be frozen. Canned are good if packed in juice or water.

One problem with acidic foods such as canned pineapples and tomatoes is that they can "eat" through the can. I have had this happen several times and price or brand does not seem to matter, so check them regularly.

Canned pineapple does not contain bromelain, you only get that from fresh pineapple.

Canned Pineapple imported into the USA is grown and canned in the Philippines. Costa Rican pineapple is a another source of fresh pineapple imported into the USA.

Only canned fruit i buy is pineapple peaches(occasionally) and pumpkin.Berries i buy frozen when they aren't in season.Canned apples seem silly and in my opinion lazy.
Pie filling is super easy to make .You just need some cornstarch to add to the fruit cook at a low temperature to get the juice out .

Agree with most of this but I ain't eating any tomatoes, canned or not, and for pears you don't have to avoid them entirely just read the packaging and it should tell you if it was made in the US or elsewhere if that's an issue to you.

Thank you for your always informative videos. The information about the canned pears was especially appreciated, because I enjoy a can every so often. I took/take for granted the fruit I purchase is not from China! I'll definitely be cautious and inquisitive when buying any food items from anywhere! Thank you.
