What really happened at the cross? The technical term we use is "atonement."

But what does "atonement" mean? It is an English word that literally means "at-one-ment." In the Old Testament, the words "kawfar" and "kippur" are used. You might recognize "kippur" from "yom kippur" or "Day of Atonement."

In this video, we look at the meaning of the word "atonement" and how atonement is depicted in the Bible.

In this series, we consider "What really happened at the cross?" We look at theories of the atonement and why I consider Penal Substitution to be at the heart of what Christ did on the cross.

Atonement is relational. The Bible should be read from a framework of relationship/covenant, not contract/legal. God judges as a Father, not as some cold legal bureaucrat.
