I'm a very blunt, straight-forward person, but I would never outright tell my friend that, that outfit they were wearing made them look bad or that they've gained weight! It's different if they pulled you aside and said "You have a rip in your pants" or "you have toilet paper on your shoe".

And as far as reading your kids phone stuff, if they're acting out and not behaving like they normally do, you can look at their phone. Their the child, you're the parent, but at the same time be ready if they catch you looking at their messages!
