The prophecy never said that Anakin had to be a jedi to destroy the sith

George Lucas made it clear that Anakin was still the chosen one who was a victim of Sidious. He fulfilled the prophecy when he killed the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. Luke was just a way to show Anakin the way back.

Even though Anakin Skywalker is the chosen one. But later on Luke Skywalker is actually the real chosen one for a reason. Since he was a better hero than his father and he didn't fall for Palpatine s manipulation. Also it's because of Luke Skywalker that Darth Vader was redeemed

I really like that Obi-Wan and Yoda considered this possibility.
Because that's the point about these prophecies, both here and in other mythological stories (like f.e. greek mythology) they can be misread, because you can never know which parts are meant to be interpreted literally and which figuratively. And Luke does check quite a few boxes: He is very strong in the force, he "has no father" (figuratively), and he would join the rebels against the empire which is led by the Sith in order to overthrow and destroy them.
I see Luke as kind of a mirror to his father, a "What if Anakin didn't fall to the dark side...?" type of deal.

There's a lot of arguments about Luke being the Chosen One.

I argue he simply enabled Anakin to fulfill his destiny to destroy the Sith

Anakin was the chosen one and at the end you see that he brought balance to the force by destroying sidious with the assistance of Luke's love pulling him out of darkness.
So Luke literally saved and helped him and was the tool to help the broken chosen one bring balance. In a way or in a point of view, they BOTH are the chosen one. Father and son of the same blood.

Old SW fan here from the time of the original releases, so I dare to say. We all need time for certain revelations, simply that is how it is. As for other situations in life, you have to make decisions, and you have to get them immediately.

The prophesy was that the chosen one would bring balance to the force, if Luke was the chosen one he brought balance by allowing Anikan to defeat Darth Siduous. However, it was also stated that Anikan brought balance to the force not to bring the new master, but to kill the Sith....though if you ask me it's all bull.

Anakin brought balance to the Force by bringing the number of Jedi down to a more comparable to that of the Sith. You can’t say the Force is “balanced” if your side, though viewed as “good”, has more than the opposing side, which is viewed as “bad”. For all the good in the world, you need the bad to balance it.

The more I hear about this prophecy the more I wonder because it's been explained a couple different ways but what stands out every time is the chosen one was said to "lead" to balance not be the one to ultimately make it happen and taking it that way it totally puts Anakin as the chosen one all the way being the one responsible for Luke existing
