I only have 5 GB of space on my Onedrive and 237 GB of space on my computer. It therefore stands to reason, that I want to be selective about the data that takes up space in the cloud. Is there a way to choose what folders from my computer are synched up in Onedrive and which do not? For instance; I do not want my movies synchronised to my Onedrive, because they take up too much space, but I do want my notes from my university studies in the cloud. I hope that you can be of help in this matter. Thank you.

I didn't realize all my files were being backed up. When I went to unsync my photos, these steps deleted my photos from both the local OneDrive and in the local "This PC". I had to go the Recycle bin to restore.

This assumes all your data is in one of the pre-configured folders in OneDrive. What if you want to sync some random folder in a different location on some other drive?

So this video is pretty old, but I'm wondering if you can help me do this with the modern OneDrive?
When I go to choosing folders, it tells me "this is an important folder!" for everything... So I can't deselect desktop, documents, pictures, etc.
OneDrive is essentially useless to me, because it's trying to handle TONS of data, because it's syncing to literally everything.

I want to do what you did, where I have ONE folder on my computer it syncs with (work stuff so I can use Office).
Any recommendations? Thanks!

sucks... it doesn't do this anymore. It won't let you select to folders on the front end. It starts downloading all foluders right from the start.

Hi there. I downloaded a few folders from a shared Sharepoint location. Immediately afterwards I can see that OneDrive sync is showing the files which are located in the folders. Is there any way I can download the files from Sharepoint without them showing on the OneDrive sync (Because I am not the owner of the files on Sharepoint). Thank you very much. Lee
