How to Start a Vertical Worm Bin Vermihut Tray #3 + Which Bedding & Food I Use Vermicompost WormFarm

Whether you have a Vermihut or not this is how you can build a successful Worm Bin. I start with pre-soaked shredded cardboard & inoculate it with some worm castings from another bin. You can also use a handful of soil from the ground or a handful of regular compost to get your bin teaming with microbes. Next put down your food and add your worms if it is your first bin, or just set this bin on top of your previous layer if you are adding on to your vertical system.

I started this VermiHut with 2000 worms but you can start with 500-1000 and see excellent results as well. Even 200 worms will work (much slower) but be sure to feed much smaller feedings than you see me feed in this video!

Happy Vermicomposting Everyone!!!🪱🪱🪱

My daughter had acne like you, after being in a pathology class we learned that acne vulgar is lives on pillowcases the a warm and moist face lies onto the fabric and the bacteria attaches and blooms. So sleep on one side of a pillow case, flip it over. For the next day the wash or change the pillow case. A total game changer. Thinking about it it’s the

I just found your channel and I am obsessed! I can't wait to get started. The Vermihut looks like a great system but doesn't the weight from the upper trays compact the materials in the lower trays? It always looks like the height of the material you have in each tray is higher than the space that's allowed between the stacked trains. Does the weight ever become a problem for the worms? Thanks for the informative videos!

I just start my new vermi bin and would like to know if my worms would die if I keep it in an unheated greenhouse? Thanks

I just started a new worm tower a couple days ago from a established worm bin(13 gal. tote) which I had for 4 months. My question is should I start 2 trays now? My theory is the bottom tray will now become my harvest tray as soon as most of the worm should travel up to the new top feeding tray(which I already fed). Thanks for your great and informative videos and knowledge 😊

That scares me adding the stuff from outside in… we have so many fly problems around here I’d be so nervous I’d end up with fly larva in there. Looking forward to see how it turns out

How do you get that cardboard and newspaper shredded? Do you own a shredder that handles it? Is it a lot of work? Thanks!

With my brand-new bin, I have no castings to inoculated a new layer. Can I use store bought castings from Home Depot to kick start a new bin?

Hi, very awesome informative video with very detailed steps by steps. Just want to ask, I always find worms in the liquid collection tray. I didn’t put newspaper on the bottom of first tray. Is that normal or is it the worms they don’t like the tray environment?

This one doesn't say how long ago you made it. I am assuming it was quite a while ago because you didn't say how many worms would eat that big feeding!? It might be a good thing to maybe drop in how many worms you have in there somehow. I just sent it to a friend who is new and I hope people don't make the mistake I did because it sure took a long time to get rid of all those fungus gnats! And the thing I've noticed, Patrick, is that for an older person, it gets quite difficult to even lift one tray after a while! Casting away a lot! Thank you for all your videos.

I have one more question, do you prepare the substrate for feeding worms in the same way each time, i.e. corrugated paper plus waste and various additives? and whether frozen waste does not harm worms?

🤗Patrick, this video just showed up in my feed. Well done. You were just as good an instructor then as you are now. I hope Nicole didn’t cause you guys any damage as we’re still wet and getting bits of rain south of you.
Happy vermicomposting. 🪱

I just watched PART OF a different person's video on how to run a tower type worm bin. I hope that you will do a video on the difference between worm "tea" and "leachate." You could go into the uses of those things, and what they are, and where they come from. People don't know the truth about that. They're calling leachate "worm tea" and there is a BIG difference. The one I just watched seemed to think that leechate was 1 of the goals of having worms. I would love it if you'd make a video on that, please? What would we do without you? Keep up the good work! As God-bless you!
