The Xbox Series X was originally projected and marketed by Microsoft to be the world's most powerful console. Now with 3 years of Xbox Series X games, some set to run at 30frames and Playstation about to announce a PS5 Pro, the need for new consoles is in-demand. But Microsoft may have a totally different approach, and next gen may start earlier than we thought!

We're hearing that Xbox is already working on Next Generation Consoles, everything is pointing to a jump to Xbox Series X2 in 2026 in my opinion!

Its not about how powerful the machines are its about how well game devs optimize there games

I feel like every time developers get more power, they make a bigger game, and leave no head room for performance. Always seems to happen generation after generation

As an owner of both the S & X, I don't give darn about a new console, I just want games!

I don't want to hear about any mid-gen console refreshes until after all the games we were promised are out & running at the fidelity & performance the Series X is capable of.

I've been a Xbox fan from day one & secured my Series X only 3 months after release. The Series X is more than capable of delivering the games we want to play. The tech is there. Use it.

Sorry, but count me out, Colt. When I first heard you talk about the power of the Series X before launch I was super hyped. You explained all the technobabble about how the X would have special hardware set aside for RT, as well as special components to process different aspects of gaming separately, allowing for 4k 60fps with ray tracing. I got my X one day 1.
I was promised 4k 60fps with ray tracing. That didn't happen. I was patient at first because games were being developed for Xbox One as well as the Series. MS went out of their way to fill the void of yet-unreleased games by bumping up the frame rate for older games. But now it's been 2.5 years and we still haven't gotten the games or performance that Big Phil promised. Yes...less than a month from Starfield, but like I said we are 2.5 years in and it's now "beginning". So all this talk about a mid-gen refresh is insulting to me. NOW they want to make another console that can...err...actually do the things that we were told the Series X could do? I'll believe it when I see it. And all this "mid-gen refresh" has taught me is that I should wait until the next mid-gen to upgrade. None of the processing numbers and such mean anything to me now. I was promised an amazing 4k 60fps with ray tracing before I bought this. So far that hasn't happened. I have absolutely zero reason to think it will happen with the next iteration.
I love my X. I love GamePass. But I have not been given the performance I was promised. Until I see that happening, I won't be buying anything. No more Day One purchases for me.

I love my series X . Mid gen refresh isn't a bad thing I personally will wait until next gen to get my next Xbox. I am going to ride this gen out with the X but then again I have never purchased a mid gen refresh.

We've got to a point in graphical ability that underperforming visually doesn't mean bad as much as it used to. Nintendo for example shows that heart of the game is more important than the face but also quality of detail in general can make a game special

We haven’t even seen the full potential of the series x, I don’t want new hardware

If both consoles can run 60fps and 4k ect but the games are not doing that then how's it the console fault and not the Devs?

I just got the X! The reason why games have not caught up is because it takes so long to make them. Take for example Starfield. I blame their already outdated Creation Engine not the X. Think about it. They started development on an old engine for older hardware 10 years ago. So we get stuck with 30fps. What gaming needs is faster dev cycles! By the way Mods work great on the console. Just not as many available as PC.

Unless the new Xbox can support mods or be connected to a pc in anyway, I’m not interested an overpriced slightly improved console that has the same capabilities as my Xbox series S and slim.

Console power, for the best graphics available, the best frame rates available and the best sound, is what we all want from a fixed form factor machine. I came from PC to xbox. A console just works hardware and software conflicts which plague PCs from time to time. Whatbis immensely important is the ability through ease of developers to achieve the best possible performance. I enjoy all the games available on xbox but I can get a little frustrated by the current short comings of the series x. I mean, D4 is a beautiful looking game, but on my series X, I still get frame jutter. By this stage, that shouldn't be happening and only demonstrates, we might have the most powerful console available, but if the devs can't access that power, then what's the point. I will buy xbox whether a mid gen refresh or a next gen console, but if they are going to push the power then devs need to be able to easily access that power so it is reflected in the games.

Happy with the performance of my Series X and have no need or desire for an upgrade atm. A mid-gen upgrade won’t make developers build better games as they will still need to support current skews. Much can change before 2026 but for now think skipping a pro version is probably a good call

The more power you get. The more Devs will push to consume all the power to the limit. You'd end up again with the same problem. Same as in the case of Pc hardware. Games always increase with each hardware improvements

The Series X might be the last console I own. Considering we haven't really tapped into the full potential of the current gen, I'm not interested in having to purchase a mid-gen console so it's a big NO from me. The cost of modern gaming is becoming prohibitively more expensive. Luckily I recently bought a powerful Gaming PC which cost me a pretty penny and the bang for my buck that I get from PC vs console is not even close. It kind of boggles my mind how much more expensive it is to buy a game on console vs what it costs on Steam so moving forward I'll be growing my PC library and I'll ride out the current gen until it dies out on Xbox. Xbox was my first and only console and it has given me many happy hours but it's time to return to my roots of being a PC gamer

I think it is interesting how much they pushed out of the xbox 360. If you compare call of duty 3 to 4 they really improved graphics. Then from that to MW2 then up to black ops 2 its really amazing. I have only played halo 3 but that looked amazing right when it came out.

I just wonder how much more the devs could push out if they were forced to. I think part of the problem is the easy fix is just to ask for better hardware, and that means more profit for Microsoft so its easier just to get in that loop. Honestly I don't like the idea of them saying we want shorter time releases like phones.

Like others, I feel we should get the full potential of these current systems before getting new ones. I understand that the Playstation is Sony's top selling product over any other tech. So I get why they want to push out more systems cause they kinda have to in a sense. But it's a shame that many developers don't or can't fully utilize the specs of the xbox systems. Let's face it, developers want things easier for them to deal with given the demands of new games every month/year. Also, given the troubles im reading MS is also having with cloud gaming, they may have to push out new hardware sooner than later.

Also no matter what they say these console manufacturers are ALWAYS working on the next gen. The moment Series X/S dropped they we’re thinking about the next Xbox.
