BMW M2 CS Review | Is it 50% better than the M2 Competition?

The BMW M2 CS is billed as the ultimate M2. And so it should be with a £75,000 asking price that comes in at almost 50% more than the already brilliant M2 Competition. Increased power, stickier tyres, chassis tweaks and more aggressive styling set it apart from its cheaper siblings, yet are these additions really enough to warrant the Cayman GT4 equaling price tag?

Watch as James Dennison attempts to find out.

So, M2 CS or Cayman GT4? Which would you buy...

This guy is an insanely good reviewer, I feel like I've driven the car from his review alone. This channel is underrated.

Although Ben and Chris are excellent in print, James is a consummate presenter. His stuff is phenomenal. A worthy addition to the brilliant contributors to this august organ down the years.

Honestly, a round of applause for this man's reviews. Every time I watch, I truly get a sense of why his opinions are on point. What he said about the M2 CS, could also become the similar case for the upcoming M5 CS: could it be that much better than the Competition?

I've been pounding the table for James Dennison the reviewer since his first video review. I said he has a voice of a grizzled veteran wrapped up with a college kid's face. He's excellent from day 1 and he needs to do more videos. He is the polar opposite of that boring bald guy on Autocar. Keep up the great work!

i seem to remember the same reviews when BMW released the E46 M3 CSL. If you think of the CS as an investment, it makes sense.

I would just keep my M2 Competition model which is a real bargain in terms of performance per pound. I would just pretend that M2 CS never exists.

Great review, great editing between in car to camera audio and the voice over. The BMW steering wheels are too extreme, they need to talk to Gordon Murray about steering wheel design.

Really appreciated this informative review. As much of a fan of BMWs I may be (including the M3 CSL and M3 CRT), the way that BMW have priced this M2 CS dangerously close to the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, makes it a really tough sell. I would say that the only logical reason why you would go for an M2 CS over the 718 Cayman GT4 would be because it simply has rear seats. If you are only allowed to have one parking bay to yourself, then the M2 CS is the one to go for BUT lets face it, if you can afford a 718 Cayman GT4, chances are that you can afford to get more than one car - so if you really care about driving, you'll appreciate the lower driving position, gearshift feel, midengined traction and naturally aspirated throttle response+free revving ability of the GT4 over the M2 CS.

Welcome back. Great review as usual. The next Jethro Bovingdon is here. (He is my fav reviewer) But I do question Jame's driving skill on the track since I haven't seen him review in those settings yet. Hope to find out soon.

I put my name down for an M2 CS a couple of years back, but in between I swapped my 2016 M2 for a 2019 M2C... I was finally offered an M2 CS build slot in August but I would have taken an unjustifiable P/X hit on the M2C and had to fork out huge chunks of money and it just didn’t seem worth it! Think the CS looks great though.

This review has been a helpful appraisal of the CS and provided me some assurance I haven’t necessarily missed out!

Would have loved to see this lose about 100kg for the price they are charging. Could have been perfection. Just too heavy compared to the GT4. Also this was a fantastic review. THhis guy always does such an amazing job. Greatly appreciated

I traded a Comp in for the CS and I regret nothing. I don't feel ripped off 😂

This is clearly faster than M2C, much more practical than the Cayman GT4, with the choice of an MT too.
I wouldn't say that is so bad 🤔

Rare versions of all the M cars hold their value astonishingly well, compared with standard M2s M3s etc. Maybe BMW want their slice of those residuals now.

No way it's that much better.... it's simply faster. Everything else is likely not noticeable. all hype. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but I doubt it.

Nice review. This is not a 75k car, its an 81k car 🤯 because you'll just want the carbon ceramics even if only for cosmetic purposes.

The CS is about exclusivity with more refined suspension. Comparatively, the Competition has been, and still is good value for the money with that lovable chassis. Impressive presentation with expert opinions, James. Thank you
