What does the face of hunger in America look like? Inter-Faith Food Shuttle CEO Ron Pringle, tells us the hardest part of his job is convincing people that hunger is a real problem in America. There's such a stigma that people often try to hide their hunger. Public perception is that food banks serve the homeless, but that makes up just 6% of who North Carolina-based Inter-Faith Food Shuttle serves. In fact, more than 38 million Americans, including 12 million children, are food insecure. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is on a mission to end hunger. In 2022, they distributed nearly 9 million pounds of food, over 6.3 million that would have otherwise gone to a landfill. The food bank is supported today by a full-scale farm that grows food naturally with no pesticides, with community gardens across Raleigh-Durham, and powerful programs rooted in sustainability.

As someone who had days where all there was to eat was sliced bread with margarine (or some days nothing at all), I can tell you it’s definitely real. Most time it’s an income problem. Sometimes addiction or mental issues are involved. But it still happens, even in 1st world countries
