Beautiful, clean rendition of a David Bowie song by Brad Mehldau. It's simply amazing how Mehldau can take simple harmonic concepts and blossom them into amazing textures! Reminds me of Fred Hersch's playing.

Brad Mehldau is one of the leading jazz pianists on this planet! (in my opinion). His early work with Joshua Redman is definitely worth checking out. Today's sheet music trivia (first to answer correctly gets PDF): Brad Mehldau has collaborated extensively with which modern drummer?

One of the greatest. Beautiful interpretation of a killer tune. Lovely transcription ❤

Lovely playing. These chord changes are pretty much exactly Bowies, Brad gives a lot of emotion and some jazzy interludes here and there but he doesn't change much which means he has taste imo.

The A natural in the bass in measure 84 is genius. Only Mehldau could make such a strident dissonance so beautiful.

My absolute top of Bowie songs. I'm sure he would have loved that version. I know I do. It feels like I'm onboard a spaceship that as soon as the engines go off, takes me away from all the bad things going on in the world.

I love how genius Brad plays. He kept the integrity of the song and added some harmonies and ultra expressive playing. I think he did that ending because maybe the room needed an oomph in the end so he made that sudden decision to end big. In his simplest of performances, I find Brad a genius.

Love how he moves the melody to a middle voice at 52. He knows his Bach.

As someone who has always genuinely loathed "rock music" his entire life as unbearable "racket" which is probably only enjoyable if you already stoked on various illegal substances I found what sounded to my ears a rather classicized version of the song really rather beautiful in places and it was heartening to witness how really quite banal and or ugly "sounds" could actually be transformed into music and quite possibly really beautiful music. You clearly have a very refined and rare talent and interest in this kind of work which I feel opens up enormous unexploited possibilities for popular/pop music and so I can only wish you well and every possible success! Please KEEP GOING!

Lovely work on this transcription Tim !

Bowie played the song to Wakeman on a battered old 12 string and then in the studio left Rick alone to do his thing. Waterman said afterwards that he had just played on one of the greatest pop songs ever. How right he was.

Great playing and transciption! I think at 0:30, the page turn comes a little too early.

Wonderful job! Thank you. But I'm afraid there is an error in measure 68. It is 1 eighth note too long: it contains 7 eighth notes and 1 quarter note.

Great transcription of a beautiful piece! At measure 29, what's the notation in the left hand that kind of looks like a down arrow? I didn't see it listed in the Transcriber Notes PDF.

Just saw him perform this live in Saratoga Springs, NY. Not a huge Bowie fan but goddamn.

Do you think it would be achievable for a level 2, 47 year old intermediate amateur pianist?
