How Europe and the USA's relationship is changing

Into Europe: The Transatlantic relationship has been labeled the world's strongest alliance. But since the end of the cold war, it has entered a rough patch. American unilateralism, European defense spending shortfalls, and diverging interests have weakened the relationship.

In the face of a resurgent Russia and a rising China, can the alliance find a new purpose? Challenges brought about by Brexit, differing climate policies, and visions of the world will have to be overcome if the US and Europe are to find a new way to go forward.

Saying that because UK left, the EU can't create it independence regarding military could not be more wrong... Indeed the British government has always been against any attempts of creating anything that looked like an European military. With them being gone, there is much more to discuss.

Did you hire Johnny Harris for the animations? Looks great.

EU cannot exist without an impartial foreign leader. Just ask the French, Italian, and German what they think about each other. The reason US "Isolationism" was popular in the first place was because anyone could see what a cluster-f European politics were and didn't want to get involved... then the cluster-f turned into TWO world wars.

There are just too many conflicted foreign policy ideas since the Soviets fell, there is no common enemy, as many Europeans don't fear China like they feared the Soviets the alliance is in trouble

the only way there can be good relations between EU and USA is if USA considers UE as a peer. To achieve that, EU needs to be more independent, that is by having its own military and defence policy (which does not mean leave NATO ofc), making EU a strong partner not only in economic terms. If that can be achieved, Transatlantic relations will prosper as Russia and China would benefit from division and disagreement. Tax related problems, as well as ecological and external affair ones will be settled naturally once the relation is stabilized. I nourish great hope for these next 3-4 years, hoping they will bring prosperity and solidarity to EU countries

UK was one who blocked any expansion of united eu military, including border guard. As soon as they left, EU increased Frontex border guard financing and capabilities alot. I think EU will benefit from seperating from UK in the long run. UK also wouldnt ever change currency to euro.

The EU always love to preach about human rights, democratic values, but gladly abandoned all of that when there are benefits given by China and Russia. The values that you all hold so dear is no thicker than a piece of paper mask.

Great video! And you explain/narrate the complex situation quite well! Not to be nitpicking too much, but you could look into making some of the transitions a bit slower or "smoother". Just a small detail, but with your content quality, i think it is a fitting contructive notice.

Example: at 5:55 the transitions are so quick they feel a bit to rapid :)

Well frankly I’m tired of other countries judging us for putting ourselves first and at the same time doing the same, and on top of that they’ve been taking advantage of us economically and militarily for the entirety of the alliance.

This is not a European perspective, but rather just a Western European perspective. Poland, the Baltic States, Romania, Bulgaria, and others who have suffered under communism and survived and thrived, we love the US.

I really hope we don’t lose our ties with Europe in the future. America and Europe are apart of the same civilization, we share so much history and are so connected in so many ways. Long Live America, Long Live Europe, and Long Live the American-European Friendship.

I love how you show propaganda pictures for each of the different policies so we can have a better image of how people saw these issues in their time.

I really don’t understand how anyone can think France has been betrayed.

There’s nothing wrong with prioritising your own country over others. That’s the entire point of a country.

I like how you include the video clips of actual speeches, so we can see the source material you are refering to. This is so important and your videos are like a visual version of how written journals do their references which is great. Thanks for the video👍🏿.

I wonder how does the Australia-UK-USA deal (and leaving France behind) has changed this dynamic

Europe needs to cooperate despite our differences so that we can act independently of China and the USA.
